MOSQUITO CATAMARAN NATIONALS CLASS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Entries are invited for the above event to be held at Saldanha Bay, from the 24th to the 28th September 2003.

 

1.      ORGANISING AUTHORITY:

The Organising Authority is the South African Mosquito Catamaran Association (SAMCA) in conjunction with Saldanha Bay Yacht Club, under the authority and sanction of South African Sailing.

 

2.      RULES:

            The regatta will be sailed under the 2001-2004 Racing Rules of Sailing of the ISAF (RRS), and the relevant Class rules, unless specifically amended by the sailing instructions and by this Notice of Regatta. Handicap results will be determined according to I.S.A.F. Small catamaran handicap rating system.

            ELIGIBILITY

            Every owner and all crewmembers of each yacht entered shall be members in

            good standing with South African Sailing. Every owner and all crewmembers

            shall be a member in good standing of the relevant Class Association.

            YACHT MEASUREMENT or REGISTRATION CERTIFICATES

Each yacht entered shall have a valid registration / measurement certificate issued by South African Sailing. Scrutiny, safety and measurement checks may be carried out at the discretion of the Organising Authority.

 

3.      ADVERTISING:

In terms of RRS Section II, Appendix A, Regulation 20, the regatta will be classified as a Category "C" event.  The event Sponsor is Tuffex Exhausts

 

4.      ENTRIES:

The entry fee shall be R100.00  (Skipper and Crew) and R60.00 (Skipper only), and R50.00 for student entries.

      The entry fee must accompany the completed and signed entry form and made payable to:

      Remember to use your name as a reference on your deposit slip! Competitor’s names that do not appear on the official SA Sailing Class list shall pay the prescribed class membership fee before registration.

 

 5.   REGISTRATION:

           

Registration and measurement will take place at the venue from 10h00 on Wednesday 24th September 2003 until one hour prior to the scheduled start of the first race.

 

6.   SCHEDULE OF RACES

      The first race will not start before 14:00 on Wednesday 24th September 2003. Subsequent race start times will be advised at the venue in accordance with the Sailing Instructions. 

      A maximum of 10 races are scheduled to be sailed. Racing is expected to be completed by Saturday 27th 2003.

      Sunday 28th September 2003 (Spare day) will only be used to meet the minimum requirements of four races for a National Championship.

      No race will start after 12h00 on Sunday 28th September 2003.

 

            7.         NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of ten valid entries received one hour before the scheduled starting time of the first race, at least ten finishers in any two races of the series and at least four races completed will be required for the event to qualify as a National Championship.

 

8.  SAILING INSTRUCTIONS:

      Sailing Instructions will be available upon registration with the Regatta Secretary at the venue.

 

9.   SCORING:

      The Low Point Scoring System as provided in RRS Appendix A4.1 of the racing rules will apply

            a) When four or fewer races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the sum of all her race scores.

            b) When five or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the sum of all her race scores excluding her worst score.

            c) When nine or more races have been completed, a boat’s series score will be the sum of all her scores excluding her worst two scores.  

 

10.  PENALTIES:

            A 360° penalty shall apply in place of the 720°. This amends RRS 44.1 and 44.2

 

11. COURSES:

            The courses to be sailed will be set out in the Sailing Instructions.

 

12.  SAFETY:

      Yachts shall comply with the class buoyancy and safety requirements.

 

 

13. AWARDS, PRIZES AND TROPHIES:

11.1     SA Sailing Medals will be presented in accordance with SA Sailing requirements for National Championships subject to the event qualifying as a National Championship. Table below refers.

20 or more                    Gold, Silver and Bronze

           

      Class floating trophies may be awarded as follows in accordance with the stated criteria:

            Automarine Trophy:                           Overall winner of the Mosquito National Championships

            Joe Bonarius Trophy:                                    Second place overall

            Mosquito Association Trophy:                      Third place overall

                                    Budd & Thomson Shield:                   Overall winner on handicap

 

11.2          Please check the Yacht Club Notice Board for details of the time of prize giving. Prizes may be awarded at the sole discretion of the Race Committee.

 

 

      14. LIABILITY:

Participation in this event is entirely at the risk of competitors and no responsibility for damage or injury resulting therefrom will rest with the organising authority, class associations, or any persons concerned with the running of the regatta.
