B1 - Mozambique Island Tour

Day 1: Fly-in to Maputo, enjoy refreshments at the Polana Hotel before boarding boat to Inhaca Island. Relax on beach, snorkel and tan. Scuba diving optional extra.

Day 2: Depart Inhaca after breakfast for Maputo, do some shopping, fly back to Johannesburg.

 

B2 - Pilanesberg Big 5 Tour

Day 1: Leave at 06H00 for Pilanesberg National Park. The 55000 ha Pilanesberg National Park is situated on the eroded remains of an ancient volcanic crater, one of only three such extensive craters in the world. Pilanesberg is well stocked with game including the "Big Five", as well as cheetah, hippo, giraffe, a large variety of antelope and over 350 species of birds. The park is in a malaria-free area. Lunch at Bakubung lodge and cool off at pool, late afternoon game drives. Stay in thatched African styled chalets or Colonial styled chalets.

Day 2: Rise early at 05H30 for an early morning game drive, bird watching, lunch at Bakubung Lodge. Leave for Sun City (where the fun never stops) and the Lost City, a fantasy world conjured out of the myths and legends of Africa, complete with ruins of old temples, grottos, simulated earth tremors, and 25 hectares of mysterious jungle threaded by adventure paths which wind between tumbling streams, waterfalls and lakes. Return to Johannesburg/Pretoria at 20H00. 

 

B3 - Kruger National Park (2 Day) Tour

Day 1: Leave at 07H00.  The road takes you through flat maize producing areas on to the rolling hills of the highlands on the western edge of the escarpment, at Waterval Boven the road winds impressively down the Drakensberg Mountain escarpment into the Lowveld. Lunch in Kruger National Park, late afternoon game drive, night drive. Barbecue at campsite.

Day 2: Early morning game drive until 10H00, leave for Bourkeís potholes, Godís Window, Lebanon and Berlin waterfalls, late lunch in Hazyview, return to Johannesburg/Pretoria at 20H00.

 

B4 - Northern Province - The Modjadji Rain Queen Expedition 

Day 1: Leave at 07H00 for Tzaneen to enjoy a wholesome lunch. Continue to the Hans Merensky Game Reserve, which includes a Hot Springs. We pass on to the village of Duiwelskloof (Devil's Gorge) that lies surrounded by forest brilliantly decorated with exotic flowers such as flamboyant and frangipani in summer and hibiscus, poinsettia, golden shower and bougainvillea in winter. Overnight in Duiwelskloof.

Day 2: Leave after breakfast for the Modjadji Botanic Reserve, which includes the largest forest of a single species of cycad (Encephalartos transvenosus) in the world. Also known as "Modjadji palms" these cycads have remained unchanged for 60 million years and probably formed the main diet of the prehistoric reptiles that lived here. A guide will be assigned to take you to the forest and will arrange for you to visit the royal Queen Modjadjiís kraal, female ruler of the Lobedu tribe (The Rain Queen). Return to Johannesburg/Pretoria via the Bakone Malapa Museum, a Northern Sotho open-air museum, in Pietersburg. The traditional way of life of the Bakone lives on in the lapas and the kgoro, where demonstrations of handcrafts are shown. A variety of souvenirs are found in the kiosk. Back in Johannesburg at 22H00.

B5 - Kruger National Park (3 day) Tour

Day 1: Depart from Johannesburg at 08H00, lunch in Kruger National Park, afternoon game drive, night drive in open vehicles with game ranger, barbecue at campsite.

Day 2: Early morning game drives, enjoy breakfast at a prime game-viewing waterhole. Spend the rest of the day looking for animals, return to camp for dinner at restaurant.

Day 3: Leave the camp at 06H00. Game drive including breakfast. Spot the remaining Big 5. Leave the park at 10H00 with stop over at the beautiful Lisbon Falls and the spectacular Godís Window view of the Blyde River Canyon. Depart for Johannesburg after lunch and arrive at 19H00.

B6 - Mpumalanga Scenic Tour

Day 1: Leave at 08H00 for Dullstroom, lunch with trout near Dullstroom, travel via the Long Tomís Pass (the most magnificent scenic highway in South Africa, the Long Tom Pass climbs 670m in 20km from Lydenburg to its summit, then drops a spectacular 1000m in 18km towards Sabie. There are immense pine forests close to the road and in spring the open sections are a mass of wild flowers). Travel through Paradise Country, a lush region of exceptional beauty characterised by forests and waterfalls, mountains and valleys, and several spectacular natural features waterfalls. Overnight in Graskop (the area around Graskop is full of waterfalls formed by the many rivers, which spill over the high escarpment. North of Graskop on the edge of the escarpment are the Lisbon Falls, 92 metres high and falling in three streams, and the Berlin Falls nearby, a lovely cascade into a deep dark pool).

Day 2: Only 15km away from Graskop in the west lies the romantic gold-rush town of Pilgrim's Rest. The entire village is a historical monument and has been preserved in the architectural style of the years between 1880 to 1915. The many interesting places to see include Alanglade House, set in a large informal garden and exquisitely furnished in Edwardian Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles, the Anglican Church built by diggers in 1884, the cemetery with its "Robber's Grave", the Dresden Shop Museum, and the Diggings Museum.  Lunch at the Royal Hotel. View Godís Window, Three Rondawels, Bourkeís Luck potholes in the Blyde River Canyon. Return to Johannesburg/Pretoria by 20H00.

 

B7 - Free State Tour

Day 1: Leave at 07H00 for Willem Pretorius Game Reserve, stopping en-route at the site of the Sand River Convention where the Boers surrendered. Lunch at excellent restaurant, then cool off at pool, late afternoon game drive. Late evening walk followed by an evening barbecue.

Day 2: Rise early at 05H30 for Gariep Dam to enjoy typical Northern Karoo scenery. Day drives in the surroundings of the Gariep Dam explaining the history and enjoying the remoteness of the area. Return to Johannesburg/Pretoria after lunch in Bloemfontein.

 

B8 - Drakensberg Tour

Day 1: Drive via Golden Gate National Park, Sterkfontein Dam and Oliviershoek Pass to Royal Natal National Park. The Mont aux Sources Amphitheatre is an 8km curve in the escarpment wall between two towering peaks, the Sentinel in the west and the Eastern Buttress. Deep chasms and narrow gorges break the enormous wall and there are Bushman paintings in the numerous caves. Overnight in lodge.

Day 2: Drive to Cathkin Park and Cathedral Peak, lunch at Cathedral Peak, drive to Johannesburg/Pretoria via Van Reenenís Pass.

 

B9 - Eastern Free State Tour

Day 1: Leave at 08H00 for Bethlehem, lunch, leave for Clarens and Golden Gate National Park. Weird rock formations in various shades of russet, ochre and purple, which have been sculpted from the sandstone cliffs by wind and rain form a spectacular backdrop to the park.

Day 2: View game (including eland, black wildebeest, oribi, zebra, warthog, ostriches, waterbirds, black eagles, jackal buzzards and the rare lammergeyer or bearded vulture), bushman paintings and beautiful sandstone formations.

Finish this hectic but spectacular weekend with a tour of the Basotho Cultural Village in the QwaQwa National Park, which is started once the chief's permission is granted, and a sip of beer is taken as a token of hospitality. Engage in traditional games, be amused by a Ngaka (witchdoctor) throwing bones and see clay pot making and basket weaving demonstrations. Tribal dancing can be enjoyed in the amphitheatre. If you have the energy left, go on a two-hour guided hiking trail together with the Ngaka where the customary usage of the plants for his magic potions is explained.

 

B10 - Borakalalo Game Reserve Tour

Day 1: Leave at 06H00 for Borakalalo a 14000 ha reserve situated about 90 km north-west of Pretoria in the North West Province, picnic alongside scenic Klipvoor dam then cool off at pool, late afternoon game drive. Over 300 species (birds and mammals) occur in the reserve. Late evening walk followed by an evening barbecue.

Day 2: Rise early at 05H30 for early morning game drive or guided riding trail, enjoy a hearty brunch before leaving for Johannesburg/Pretoria. We drive past the Hartebeespoort Dam where you can either visit the Snake and Reptile Park or the local flea market to buy some South African curios. Back in Johannesburg/Pretoria at 20H00.

 

B11 - Gold Point Scuba Diving Tour

Day 1: Leave early at 06H00 for the world's best scuba destination. Drive in a 4x4 vehicle via Eastern Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Piet Retief, Jozini Dam, Kosi Bay to Ponta do Ouro in Mozambique. Enjoy an afternoon dive. Camp at Ponta do Ouro.

Days 2 and 3: Enjoy a morning and afternoon dive accompanied by qualified divers. Camp at Ponta do Ouro. View Indo-Atlantic species of coral and other sea-life. More than 1200 species of fish. Visibility upto 40 m and depth of reefs no more than 30 m.

Day 4: Leave early at 07H00 and drive back to Johannesburg/Pretoria. Lunch in Piet Retief. Back at 20H00.
