Sarah Milner's Letters -
Letter 1, Nov 4th 1910
from Sarah L.L. Milner(1) to Fanny Eliza Scott(2)
(Numbers in brackets refer to Norfolk Family Tree and the Comments pages)
Pollie(3 Mary) no doubt misses my dear brother(4 Abie), such a sad and uncalled for death - then again cousin W.H. Tatham(5) Abie said died (or was murdered) cousin Charlie(?) said when leaving the Bank of England & had his watch stolen. Charlie said he was shot at, Pollie never liked me to have anything to do with cousin Tatham - even at Fathers death when Abie suggested I should write and appraise him of Fathers death, Pollie at once said to let Hattie(6) or Anna(7) write. I never could quite understand her.
When my husband & I were last staying there Abie showed my husband(8 Milner) our family chart, I had seen it many times - Pollie did not like it. Abie asked me for all my childrens christian names to add, as he could not remember them. I sent them - but it seems by a letter he sent me on the Q.T. a person was against it. I saw Reggies(9) & Donalds(10) names.
Of course if any member of our family made a move in the Leman Estates monies and plate at the Bank of England it is the eldest sons eldest son - not daughters sons. I know all our family history and know right from wrong both in the Leman and Jennings estates, the latter comes in grandfather Scott's(11 John) first wifes(12 Sarah) family, not on my grandmother Scotts(13 Thomasine) side, she was a Leman.
Since you left England very many hundreds of deaths have taken place through claimants to each of these estates, but most of them had no right to move in the matter and Abie told me neither he nor cousin Tatham were interesting themselves.
Your son Reggie can demand a Copy of Chart as it was handed to Abie after Harry(14) died and just before uncle Robert Scott(15) died and Abie ought to have sent Reggie a copy, some cousins of mine have one or two each. I think it is only right that Reggie should have what is his by right our "Original family chart."
