We arrived back and straight into work. Apologies for not replying ealier for all of the wonderful information and more especially the great day we spent with you.
We cannot wait to come back to Cape Town and the surrounding area. You are extremely fortunate to live there.
Thank you once again and we hope to be back and in touch once the the World Cup hulabaloo is over.
Please do keep in touch if you feel like it.
Lesley & Robert Denton
Your email was timely as we were going to reach out to thank you today! We couldn't have asked for a better way to expererience the peninsula tour- you were so knowledgeable about everything that we felt as though we weren't just sightseeing- we were learning as well.
We hope to make it back to capetown- and plan to look you back up! We'd reccomend you to anyone! You helped in making this the best trip we have ever taken. We won't forget the experience!
Rachel and Dave Garonzik
This is amazing thank you so much. We are safely home and the bottle of wine made it no problem. That is our favorite momento from the trip.
We had a wonderful time on our tour with you and learned so much more than just about wine. We left with a new love for the country of South Africa and have many wonderful memories.
Courtney's parents are already thinking about when they can make a trip out there happen. Many thanks again,
David and Courtney Burk
Thrilled that you sent the picture and the good wishes.
We had an absolutely wonderful day with you and it definitely was a highlight of our fabulous trip to South Africa. It was certainly not a "typical tour" because of your hands-on approach and knowledge. Errol & I wish we had stayed for a longer time in Cape Town to be able to spend time with you for an additional day. We look forward to visiting again and seeing more of your beautiful city and surrounding areas.
I hope to make the special matzoh ball recipe (from your Grandmother) for this Passover! Enjoy your Passover and again, Thank You for a great day,
Errol & Nance Bier
Many thanks for your mail.
So good to look back on our lovely holiday. Settled back at home now - which is lovely too - already planning our next trip to South Africa. Have been boreing our friends rigid - but you may see some of them - with details.
Now trying to get off the extra pounds we put on !!
With best wishes.
June and Ted York
Thank you so much for everything! We truly had a wonderful experience and can't wait to return to beautiful Cape Town in the near future.
Thanks for the picture it is a good one, except for the fact that i clearly need to go on a no food diet!!! Another side effect of children, all you do is eat from nerves!
Thank you again for all that you shared with us.
And our best to the Wizard, may he continue with his amazing skills!
Tsara forwarded me your email which gave me your contact details - I know you gave us all a card but my filing system is in chaos.
However, I just wanted to thank you for making our day so enjoyable. It was informative, interesting, fun and I wished it could have continued over several more days.
And many thanks for taking us into Kirstenbosch - you made the whole day such a treat.
Best wishes for the New Year.
Did I roll that enough? Your tour turned out to be the best thing we did in Africa. Thank you.
We also thought (Sethi and I) that your red wine was the best bottle we had. I want to know how we can get more.
I can't get enough of highly intelligent obsessed people like you; we enjoyed getting to meet you and to know you a little bit.
When you come to the states if you don't call me I'll slap you. 706-829-9305. I'm sure your wife must be very beautiful and also a brainiac but probably is completely sick of all your" stuff" (read bullshit) by now.
Never mind that. Remember in the riddle, it's his SON.
Please continue to keep in touch and remember to let us know about the wine.
Thanks for giving us the trip and so much of yourself; you're a trip. I'll be sure to check out all the links you sent.
Tom and Margaret Swift
PS. Oh yes, I forgot to ask if you can say: Rubber baby buggy bumpers.
Got back to a cold Glasgow yesterday, and we're missing South Africa already!
What a wonderful country and lovely people you have down there, it was a real pleasure being there. Both Rosemary and I learned so much about all sorts of things on our fantastic day out with you, and the chocolate and wine/port experience will be tried out at our next dinner party. The trip to Stellenbosh was certainly one of the highlights of our trip, and I will definitely catch up with you on my return to SA.
I love this word "ubuntu" which I compare to one of my own favourite words which is harmony........I think they're pretty close in meaning, but both are so important in how we treat each other as individuals and families.
Thank you for making us feel special, for making wine and food such fun, and for teaching us so much about your country.
How kind of you to send this. We had a fantastic time with you as you toured us around. We are still laughing at your jokes!
Thank you again for all of your shared information, it was truly a education. You have a beautiful country (I know you know this) and I hope to return sometime in the near future.
Thank you again.
Our family was in full agreement that you gave the best tour ever. We all enjoyed your passion for your country and the history you shared.
Tonight we will head back to Long Street for a little night life. We look forward to receiving your history references.
Hi Rob, Yes, we enjoyed our time with you very much, and are very happy we were able to arrange this day together. We only wish we had had more time to spend in Cape Town. Guess we'll just have to return!
Thanks for sending on the photos. They're fun to see, and our friends appreciated them. I'm impressed with the topics you referenced that we had discussed, very thorough!
Our giraffe, sadly, did not make the trip intact. The airlines put a "fragile" tag on him, but he arrived broken in four places. Danny did some surgery on him, and he's recuperating in the "giraffe hospital" in our garage. Hopefully he will not look too battle scarred.
Our trip was truly wonderful, and we hope to return to Africa, (who knows where exactly?) at some future date. We will definitely recommend your services to anyone we know who is travelling to Cape Town. All the best,
Thank you so much. We had a terrific time in Cape Town thanks to you! We really enjoyed meeting you and spending two days touring the countryside.
We are now in Johannesburg and will be leaving shortly for our last camp experience near Kruger. We then head home on Saturday.
We have loved Africa and I hope we will get back soon.
Thanks a lot , just to tell you we had a wonderful time in SA and are looking forward to come and visit again.
All the best
Thank you so much for sending the picture and also for the wonderful tour! We had an amazing time and learned so much from you. It truly was a pleasure spending the day with you!
All our best,
Thank you so much for all that you did to make our time in S Africa so memorable. We feel so fortunate to have had a chance to see things that are off the regular “tourist” track. Your knowledge of the apartheid history was particularly appreciated and the visits to the townships were very special.
Please say Hello to Lillie, for us, the next time that you see her. I am including some photos that we took at her home. In another mailing, I will send some photos of the children dancing.
Bill and Carol Baxter
Evan and I just drank your 2006 Merlot. Evan commented, "very Merlot-ish fruit with some nice spiciness", and I'd add nice mouthfeel, soft tannins and good fruit. Well done!
It was wonderful to spend 2 days touring with you- we all loved your energy and spirit. Thanx! We will share your contact info with anyone we know heading your way.....and do tell if you are planning a trip to the US.
Thank you for your nice words, we left in good spirit, me to Zürich, Cynthia to Mauritius! Both enriched by YOU.
Thanks again and warm regards!
Its my first day back at work and you can imagine how I am enjoying myself………..Ugh!!!!
I cant begin to tell you what a wonderful and memorable trip we all had in South Africa and your help to enjoy it all was just amazing. Our two days with you were fantastic and your knowledge and insights into the country imparted to us, was invaluable. Thank you again. Of course we will scan some photos over to you and I hope that in the not too distant future we will all meet again.
My fondest and sincere good wishes to you.
Thanks ever so much for the photograph and your good wishes. We had a really tremendous trip, going on to Knysna, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Zululand & Swaziland. We went on four Game Drives in the Kruger and took some great photos. Our trip to Zimbabwe was interesting, the Victoria Falls was stupendous. We returned to Johannesburg and met up with our friends before returning to the UK. Thank you very much indeed for your very informative tour of the winelands, we will never forget it.
Indeed we are already planning our next trip with my cousin, and we may venture further afield to Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, or Namibia. But we will first come to Cape Town - after all we have still to go up Table Mountain and visit Robben Island! It wont be until 2009 or 2010 - but rest assured that we will contact you when we start firming up on details.
Norma & Beryl Barber
How are you? Thank you so much for the birthday wishes! I just arrived in Jeddah right now, been travelling non stop. Had an amazing time with my dad in south africa. We really enjoyed your wines very much, they were excellent. We took the white wine to the Royal Malawane, and the sommelier there tried some of it, and he really enjoyed it very much, he said it was an excellent wine!
Thank you very much for helping us out in Cape town, we learnt so much from you.
Please keep in touch,
Well, we’re back to the depths of winter. It was -7 last night!
Thank you so much for the wonderful day and the excellent photo which we have printed off. The tour with you made our stay in Cape Town.
We look forward to making contact with you again, soon.
Shulamit & Jonathan Pfeffer
I echo Liz's sentiments.
We are fortunate enough to travel a reasonable amount and take the odd personal tour. We both agreed that you were one of the most enthusiastic and knowledgeable people we have enjoyed time with 'on tour'; and you judged our interests pretty well too!
You may also be pleased too know that I was out last night to dinner with some rather important clients and picked a decent ZA pinotage to chat over!
Will hopefully catch up next year in Cape Town with one or two friends in tow as well.
We’ve missed you today but have reflected on how amazing the past 3 days were - you just did an outstanding job! Loved it all! We were able to get into Ginja - phenomenal!
Hit the Green Market Square and was able to track down the sewing place so all is well.
Would love to get the jpegs of our pics from you when you have the time.
Thanks again for everything and count on many happy returns from me to Cape Town - will definitely pass along your contact info for people looking for top-notch guides!
Your tour was a real Highlight of our trip, and we enjoyed the photos as reminders. The rest of the trip---safaris and Vic Falls---were very special as well. It is a beautiful country you have there, and you show it so well and with such pride.
Rest assured we will recommend you to anyone with whom we have the opportunity, and, in fact, the first presented itself yesterday.
My best regards,
We will check out the photos on the 15th, when we arrive home. Internet access here in Chobe is limited. We heard from several friends that the photos are really good! They loved seeing them!
We are still talking about our day with you! A wonderful day! We will always remember the communal garden. I will send you my favorite photo of the lady with the squash on her head, so that you can give it to her. She just grinned, when she saw it on my camera's screen! And, Lillie............what can we say? She made such an impression on us. An amazing lady!
Our time in Phinda, MalaMala, Vic Falls, and now Chobe have been outstanding! You set the tone for an incredible experience!
We are finally getting back into the real life mode. We had a fantastic time with you and an outstanding vacation in southern Africa overall! Our days spent on tour with you gave us a great insight into your country- its people, culture, beauty, food and of course wine!
We have been rhapsodizing about our trip to family and friends and will do so for a very long time!
Thank you and be well,
We had the most fantastic holiday - and the 3 days with you were absolutely brilliant. Thank you so much for showing us so much of your beautiful Cape Town. We learnt so much in those 3 days and got such an insight into the country, that we have fallen in love with it. In the words of Arnie "We'll be back!"
Chris and Debbie Wisdom
I first of all want to apologize for not writing any sooner. But upon our return we immediately had another trip and after that it was hectic getting back, and then … as they say in Capetown… there is always tomorrow!
We want to thank you so much for making our trip so wonderful. It was a pleasure meeting you and learning from you and seeing Africa through your eyes! We really fell in love with the country and you contributed to that very much!
We hope to be able to reciprocate your warm hospitality when you visit Israel the next time. Please call us when you come.
All the best and again thank you so very much!!
Thank YOU!!! We literally just got off the plane, Rob – and checked email for the first time in over a week!
Our time with you was one of the highlights of our trip – and we want you to know how much we appreciated what you did for us – and to make Beth’s birthday special!
Best to you,
PS – love the photocard!!!!
Greetings from New York City! Eric and I did not really get a proper chance to thank you for the wonderful two days we spent together in Cape Town and wanted to say hello and thank you for educating us about your country and providing us with such a memorable and wonderful two days in Cape Town. We had two of the best days of our trip spent with you and really enjoyed our time together. Thank you for opening our eyes to what Africa has to offer and for sharing your life experiences with us. We had a wonderful trip and it was a great end to our wedding celebration.
As they say "they honeymoon is over" and we are now settled back into life in New York and our first full week of work but we are certainly keeping the lessons we learned and memories we made in our minds!
We hope you enjoyed the Jewish holiday and your trip. I will send you a separate email with some of our photos from Botswana and Cape Town. We have many friends who will be traveling to Cape Town and will certainly pass on your name as a contact for them for their trip as they pass through Cape Town.
Sorry it's taken so long to reply - time seems to have flown by since we returned home from our wonderful holiday in Southern Africa. We all really loved the time we spent with you in Cape Town and the Winelands. You are not only a fantastic source of knowledge, but great company as well. The winetasting was especially fun, & those little experiments you made us do particularly memorable!
Thanks for putting our photos up on your website - they are excellent and a lovely record of the time we spent touring with you. Attached are a couple more shots from our collection that you might like...
Please do let us know if you are planning a trip to New York, Sydney or Melbourne, as it would be great to catch up. In the mean time, sending you the very best of wishes from all of us,
Thanks for the photos - have received them.
THANK YOU for showing us a wonderful time in the Cape Town area; we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves there. We have now rated South Africa, especially Cape Town as our top of list vacation spot, even pipping Tuscany! And it is all thanks to the wonderful hospitality and graciousness of the South Africans, and especially to you! We have never encountered such intensity of warmth and sincererity and pride of nation in our many visits across the continents, and this has created a lasting impression on us.
You live in a beautiful and wonderful part of the world. And thanks to you, we not only experienced beautiful landscapes and sceneries, but you have shown us what great food is...yummy, and what a great people can be...you and your countrymen have a very unique and interesting journey and I wish you all the very best - there is great hope and optimism in the country and it augurs well for South Africa.
Sam sends her regards and thanks for taking care of her. Despite your claims that you "dont do children", you were great with Sam - I really appreciated the time and care you took to explain things to Sam - the 3 days she spent with you was very enjoyable and educational...and fun!
thanks again, and good luck!
Thank you very much for the pictures and for your warm hospitality on Thursday. It was a very educational and fun filled day. You are one in a million, people like you give the south african tourism and hospitality industry a whole new vibrant and unforgettable meaning. You have enhanced my love for the wine industry and you have planted a seed in me that I hope will develop as I grow as a person in the hotel industry and in life in general.
Once again thank you a million. You are a legend. God bless and looking forward to working with you in the future
Just want to say again – we thoroughly enjoyed being with you and your personalized tours. The places that you took us too were mostly unique, unusual and off the normal tourist track. You made our Capetown visit very special. Sam and Elianna were very impressed and happy. Elianna said you were “Cool.”
You were an absolute joy to work with and we have already passed on your name and details to our travel agent. We are looking forward to our return to South Africa as well as Namibia, Botswana and Mozambique. We are HOOKED!
Please stay in touch with you. If you are ever considering visiting the U.S. again, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you very much. You have a mighty memory and reminder system. You gave the Reilly's and Joyce and me wonderful memories of South Africa. We have told many of our friends about the memorable day we spent with you. Who knows, we may make it back there one day. We remain very favorably impressed with your country and especially the people.
Your fascinating description of the times before an after apartheid make it all come to life.
I hope you are continuing to educate visitors as you did us.
Once again many thanks for looking after us and making our visit to Cape Town a memorable one.
We always enjoy your company and hope we will keep in touch in the future.
Just a note to let you know that we are back in the Emerald Isle and to thank you for making our holiday so enjoyable.
It was such an interesting 2 days and most memorable. Heather and I were impressed with your presentation and knowledge of the country and its ways.
I am sure that your prognostication that Viognier will be the new taste experience and take over from the already redundant Chardonnay and challenging the snappy Sauvignon Blanc is spot on A complete eye opener to me.
Have a Happy Easter and keep in touch as the invitation to you and Joy is very much open to visit Ireland.
we have finally returned home from our grand adventure to south africa and I am able to catch up with my correspondences. thank you once again for a memorable journey of the past, present and future of south africa. my most compelling memory still remains the little boy with the music in his head.
anytime you are near "west virginia" paulette and I would love for you to be our guest at the greenbrier.
as promised I am sending you the following email site as to where I located your services.....
it is truly hard to believe what a small world it is...
thank you once again for making our adventure over the top....
We had the most special of days. Thanks for being a big part of a memorable trip. We have just arrived back to New York and will remember Capetown and Kenya always! Thanks for explaining how they get the bubbles into the sparkling wine! We have told so many people about the exclusive nature of our day with you and they are all pleased and agree it was the only way to see the wine country!
Perhaps we will meet again!
Many thanks for your note and for the photo. We arrived back yesterday having had a fabulous time in your wonderful country.
We really appreciated our day with you and your generosity with the wines. We loved visiting the winelands and the lunch and vista at Mont Rochelle was one of the highlights of our whole holiday.
We will definitely return, hopefully next March, and will contact you in advance. In the meantime I hope you don't mind us recommending your services to any friends who are visiting - you are a top guy!
All the very best to you and thanks once again for making our visit so special.
Sam and I cannot thank you enough for the wonderful tour we enjoyed last week in Cape Town. The day after your tour we found ourselves on the wine route at Stellenbosch and drove past Kayamandi. We both commented about the fact that neither of us would have ventured into the settlement on our own, yet one of the many highlights of your tour was visiting the splendid Lilly and her two-ring empire!
Please pass on our fond regards to Lilly, Collette, Belinda and Latiefa. Spending time with all of them, and sampling both their food and culture, was a true delight. All I have to do now is convince Sam to make Rotis as well as Latiefa can!
All the very best
Thank you for a wonderful trip!
Your knowledgable stories and cheerful humor made our travel so much more fantastic!
Hope you'll be visiting Isreal one day....
Thank you very much for being so thoughtful.
We are home safely and had a super holiday.
Thank you for the super day you gave us and the opportunity to meet Lily.
This day was certainly one of the highlights of our trip.
Thank you very much for the photos, which I have distributed to all. Apologies for the delay in acknowledging, but I have been away on and off since returning to the U.K.
We would all like to thank you for two more fantastic tours with you in Cape Town. You really did make what could have been a tricky inter-generational holiday into an excellent experience for each of us.I did not quite know how to take it when Olivia pronounced afterwards 'it was so much better having Rob there' !, praise indeed from a 17 year old ! You can now proclaim on your website ' Tours for 17 to 80 year olds '.
As you know,Stephen and I really like South Africa and hope to return some time for a different and longer holiday. If and when we do we will hope to look you up in order to do one of your more unusual tours.
Many thanks for an excellent time.
Thanks for your nice note and photo, and of course for showing us your beautiful country. We have discussed many times how much we enjoyed your tour and our time with you. We are still in Cape Town (I am taking advantage of the convenience of the Cape Grace's Communication Centre this morning) and will begin our trek home this afternoon.
We also wanted to let you know we were able to claim "the prize" and got into Ginga Thursday evening. What an experience!! Also, thanks to you, we not only got into Showroom on Sat eve but also had the most coveted table, overlooking the chef's show from the second floor. And boy, did he put on a show! We can't thank you enough for the extra effort you put into getting us a reservation and a great table
Take care and best wishes with your many and varied endeavors!
Thanks for the photo. We had great time and sure enjoyed our time with you. Also your suggestions for rest of trip were right on!. We just loved Singita. When I get myself caught up I will send you a few photos.
Feel free to use us as reference if you ever need one.
Its always good to be back especially when enriched with new experiences.
When friends ask us about the trip I find the things we learnt and experiences we had on our two days with you found their way into most of the conversations.
Latifa, Lily and Belinda figure highly in our memories and deepened our understanding of South Africa. Give them all my best wishes, and tell Latifa that she is an inspired cook and an impressive ambassador for her faith.
I hope the filming went well and look forward to hearing where and when we can see it. Rob you are in danger of becoming more famous, and occupied, in this "retirement" activity than for the rest of you many careers together.
Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing with us your Africa.
I'm also sorry to be so late in responding. Truth of the matter is that I am a one-finger typist, and I detest doing it. Does it help if I THOUGHT about it many times?
Rob, we have sssooooo many great memories of our SA trip, in no small measure thanks to you. YOU ARE A WONDERFUL GUIDE! And Michelle is to be congratulated for her astute selection. Your enthusiasm for your country is refreshing. Also, thank you again for handling our health issues so professionally. I NEVER want to experience that again.
Here's to your continued good health and business success.
It was great getting your e-card and visiting your website. We loved the pictures of us! Thank you.
Again, thank you for helping to make our trip so memorable. We will pass your name on to our friends. We haven't opened your wine yet, but when we do, you'll hear from us!
We made it home safe and sound with wonderful memories of a memorable trip to Southern Africa. We really enjoyed spending the day with you on the Cape Penisula. Thanks for the bottle of Viognier. We initially were going to take it with us to Botswana and enjoy it on our first night in the "bush." Then we grew concerned that we couldn't take it on the plane. So, we drank it that night! It was delicious. Hope you by now have had the opportunity to share it with others at the opening of that restaurant.
Our visits to Botswana and Zambia were wonderful.
Finally, on the British Airways flight from Joberg to London, we noticed an article in their magazine about a one day Cape Cuisine tour arranged and accompanied by guess who? It reminded us of your mentioning having developed such a gastronomic adventure. Good luck with your new cookbook.
Thanks again for a very enjoyable and informative day. Please let us know if you should ever be visiting the Washington area. We'd love to get together.
How thoughtful. Scott and I had lunch today complete with a South African wine and reminisced about our wonderful trip to your beautiful country.
I have put together a scrap book with many of you thoughts written in beside pictures of various flowers, seacoast towns
and shanty areas which have significant meaning to me. I wish I could express how much we both enjoyed our trip and your
hospitality. Enjoy .
Thank you so much for your kindness and good humor. The information you gave us was remarkable. My journal is almost complete and I enjoy rereading the Cape Town portion very much. The warmth of the sun and the warmth of the laughter are both indicative of the warmth of your personality. You took very good care of five strange and unique (insert weird) women and you did not lose your sense of the ridiculous.
Thanks you again for your graciousness, information and the wonderful lessons you taught. Olive oil is my friend.
The pleasure was all ours ! Anna & I enjoyed very much to tour with you and we hope that your wine has made the journey without harm - in fact we let it rest for the time being but I am afraid it won't survive the weekend...
My father was very happy about the 1,5 l R&R and here I am also afraid that it won't last - very unfortunate for us he chose to take it home rather than opening it with us...
We are glad that you gave us strength with regards to our hobby "eating & drinking" which we renamed in "discovering culinarian delights around the globe" - how does that sound ?!
Thanx again to you Rob and all the best from your
thanks for the great postcard. Indeed, the trip was exceptional in every way, and I still marvel at all we learned from you that day.
Your merlot was FANTASTIC, though I’m afraid that both bottles were enjoyed within the week. We will make sure to recommend you to wine lovers on their way to your beautiful country.
On behalf of the Model's and ourselves, we would really like to thank you so very much for the wonderful two days we spent with you while we were in Cape Town. We covered a lot of territory, learned a great deal from you, and had a lot of fun experiencing everything. The rest of our trip was thankfully also sensational, so we are hoping that we will be able to come back to SA again soon...Meanwhile, should you find that you are coming to the US, please know that you have a home here. Thanks again for everything. Looking forward to being together again.
All the best,
Very cool post card! Thanks again for the great tour and delicious Viognier and for also showing me the proper way to stick my nose into the glass--I had a fabulous time. You are officially on my "hot list" for Cape Town.
I also am so appreciative for all I learned from you about the townships, your work, your brother's work--it made the trip that much better to really get the personal view.
All the very best,
Well, thank YOU from a couple of very grateful tourists. You made our stay in your beautiful city and region a special time. Neither of us will forget the personal tour of the Kirstenbosch Gardens, the Bird at the spring grotto, the "useful plants", etc. We absolutely treasured the special Cape tour and your spending extra hours on our behalf to fill our eyes.
I especially valued your insights about SA society today and your optimistic view of the future. The baboon choreography was timely and just right. And, we now have cocktail insights that meet any Threshold of interest, and even one about false teeth to go with False Bay. Your wine was super, Phyllis tells me, and is another expression of your generosity. Thank you, again.
Bye the way, Rob, we highly recommended you to a couple we traveled with at Bushman's Kloof, John and Jill Chalsty who I think will return to the Cape Grace. Both of us join in an invitation for you and companion to stay with us in DC if you head this way. We mean it.
We have already had compliments from our friends and family on the montage of pictures. We will try our best to be goodwill ambassadors for Capetown and send future visitors your way. We will look forward to enjoying the wine we bought and will definitely cherish all the great memories.
Rob, thanks so much for making our visit to your fantastic city and great part of South Africa a very enjoyable and memorable experience. The beautiful scenery, diverse sightseeing, and excellent meals all contributed to a very pleasant three days and the final part of our fantastic vacation. The long trip home wasn’t too bad --- the British Air seats were excellent. The weather in San Francisco now is almost identical to what we experienced in Capetown, except the sun in not in the same place in the sky. Enjoy your one day off before your next three days of touring.
We have already had compliments from our friends and family on the montage of pictures. We will try our best to be goodwill ambassadors for Capetown and send future visitors your way. We will look forward to enjoying the wine we bought and will definitely cherish all the great memories.
Best wishes in the future.
Thank you so much for making our Cape Town trip truly memorable and special. Your passion and commentry made our trip more memorable and enhanced understanding of Cape Town and South Africa. Charles and I appreciate your generous investment of time and your breadth of knowledge regarding fauna, flora, cultural politics and homeland topics.
You brought South Africa alive and made us better understand the country and its people. If you are every in Boston, please let us know.
P.S. we loved your Merlot and finished the entire bottle!
We opened your bottle of the Ca 4121 merlot - it was fabulous!!!!! We really enjoyed it very much - wish it was sold here.... The color was so rich and deep dark purple.
We enjoyed the fresh fullbodied flavor, I thought it tasted earthy and had some pomagranate flavors. Dan thought he tasted a bit of mint, some chocolate, red cherry/raspberry and a hint of vanilla with a long finish. Thank you so much for sharing it with us and for giving us such a great insight into Cape Town. We would like to come back and stay some time in the wine country!!!
I hope all is well with you!
Thank you very much for the birthday remembrance. Your time with Eileen, Ed, Joyce and me was truly one of the major highlights of our trip to Africa. We have repeated your stories about your country many, many times.
You, your lessons to us and your country's transition are remarkable. You will live on in our lives through photos , but much more because of yourself and the very interesting account of South Africa's history you shared with us.
If you ever get to Southern California, we'd look forward to getting together with you.
We so enjoyed our time with you and your beautiful city.
Our appreciation of the city and surrounds are due to your very interesting and fun stories.
Thanks so much!
Hope that you are well and enjoying those lazy days in the winelands!
Safari was absolutely fantastic and I was not as scared as I was in the dodgy crocodile farm with the mad owner! As you can imagine, Sandip absolutely loved Safari and he cannot wait to book the next trip!
We wanted to say a big thank you to you for giving us such an enjoyable experience in Cape Town. We had such a great time and have some wonderful memories of our honeymoon. I am sure that we will be back soon and we have not brought a cheap wine since!!! We are also holding our wine glass correctly!!
Hope you enjoy the pictures and keep in touch!
See you again very soon.
Thank you so much for the lovely email. We are sending you a CD with our pictures and a picture book for Lily - about Manhattan. We thought she might enjoy seeing what it's like over here.
We cannot thank you enough for the terrific tour we had and for the wonderful time we shared on our day together. It is such a pleasant memory. We miss South Africa immensely, it has left an indelible mark on us and I can't wait to return.
Please give our best regards to Lily and the other fellow whom we met at the Township (I must admit I'm not very good with names but Lily's was easy to remember). We hope to see you in our neck of the woods soon so we can return the hospitality.
Incidentally, your wine is being saved for a special occasion - because it's that good. Thanks a million.
Just back this morning. Yes, we had a wonderful time in Capetown. We loved the Cape Grace and then went on to Cellars- Hohenort which was equally spectactular. What a lovely city you have.
We would both like to thank you for a really lovely day in the winelands. You would be proud of us since, when we have been tasting the wine with such expertise, and listening...Thank you also for your lovely Merlot at the Cape Grace. That was really special and much appreciated.
Once again many thanks and we hope we will have the pleasure of meeting up with you again when we are in South Africa,
Thank you very much for a wonderfull afternoon in the Cape, as well as for the great pictures! We will certainly call on you again when we are down there.
In the meantime, feel free to let me know where you will be travelling in Europe on your next trip and I'll give you pointers for a possible visit to Austria.
Zdenek Bakala & Michaela Karpfova
Thanks, this is a fantastic souvenir of a GREAT trip!!
We really loved our 3 days and are busy recommending you and your city to everyone we know. Thanks again!
We'll let you know once we've tasted your wine (probably not for a few weeks due to travel)
John and I just wanted to thank for making our stay in CT so enjoyable. We really enjoyed your company and loved the tours. We shall definately be in touch when we return. It will not be another 25 years.
Having a great time in Plet and managed to hire a car. As it is a much smaller place, it is easy to find ones way.We will give your name to any friends who may visit.
Regards and good wishes,
Thanks so much for the wonderful day yesterday. We feel like we've known you all our lives. The photos are great. We shall treasure them always. Thanks for the wine...we are going to open it tonight and toast you on our little terrace at the hotel before we go for dinner.
Keep in touch.
First of all best wishes to you for 2005. Once more we would like to thank you for the wonderful guidance you gave us during our stay in Cape Town. We learned a lot about the country, the wines, the politics, etc. You showed us places of which we thought these only existed in fairytales (among others dining under the ‘Tuscany Tree’ in Franschhoek).
We hade a lot of fun and would certainly like to visit the country again in the future.
Thanks for the e mail and photo. Without your research, planning, intuition, knowledge and forethought(Not to mention your charm) we would not have had such a wonderful holiday. It was all truly memorable and we want to return.
It was not easy to persuade Bob to the Cape in the first place, as you will have gathered, but he truly enjoyed himself and you will be pleased to know he now has a somewhat altered perspective on many of the experiences we encountered, the wine country, the food, the coastline, the townships and the very complex historical background and present cultural situation. I heard from his Secretary today that he has not stopped talking about the trip all day.
As for me I am making good use of my left nostril and boring everyone stiff about wine! I brought back some amazing African music and have been listening to it in my car all day.
Thanks again for all your efforts on our behalf, it was all wonderful.
Kind regards, Happy Christmas,
Many thanks for your welcome back message. It was our first day back at work on Tuesday and the holiday now seems like a lifetime ago. Gazing at the picture of Table Mountain has brought back many happy memories when I probably should have been thinking of more mundane work matters!
I hope that you got our e mail from Cape Grace. We had also sent some e mails to our daughter in England which she hadn`t received. In case you didn`t get my earlier message, could I thank you once again from both Jen and myself for a wonderful and unforgettable day in the Winelands. It was an experience that we will never forget. The relaxed style in which you relayed the information made it seem that we were out for the day with a long standing friend.
Since we got back, Jen and myself have told so many people about how great Cape Town is we think we should be receiving commission from the Tourist Board! We`ve also been able to recommend a decent bloke who knows the odd fact or two about wine.
Once again, many thanks Rob for a fabulous experience.
Been so busy touring in the hire car, we haven`t had a chance to thank you for such a wonderful day on Tuesday. It was a trip that we won`t forget in a hurry.
We also tried your wine in the restaurant - - I`d stick to the day job!! Seriously, we thought your Chardonnay was excellent. A new career as a wine maker awaits.
Many thanks once again for a great day.
Jen and Paul Storr
Just in case Linda hasn't already responded I wanted to let you know that having you show us around was one of the best decisions we made for the trip!
I will never concede that to Don Lumb but you made our time in Capetown not only enjoyable but very valuable and full of knowledge and experiences that we would otherwise have missed.
You can only imagine how many people we have told of our time with Etienne at Vrede en Lust!! What a wonderful day. And the trip to Cape Point was equally good, thanks for ordering the fine weather.
We've already got the piggy bank going for the next trip! Thanks again,
Rob, thanks so much we had a great time and by now I am sure you have met the Bells. We convinced them to cancel the A and K tour and get you......
Remember you are on the schedule to make our first wine......
Thank you very much for the fun, fascinting and informative tour today. I am so sorry that we didn't get to say good-bye -- I got a call just as we were walking down to see you. As I was getting off the phone, Matt was back in the room and you were already gone.
I am certain that today will hold some of our fondest memories of South Africa. Please let us know if your many travels ever bring you back to New York. We would love to return your gracious hospitality. Again, many thanks for such a terrific experience.
We can hardly wait to see your photos and share them with our friends and family!
Thank you for the note and the picture. We had a great time during the tour and that is a testament to your knowledge and love for the city of Cape Town.
Best regards and thank you again for all the wonderful information and service you provided.
We haven't stopped telling people about the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens that you took us to. Your knowledge of wine, and your love for Capetown made for us a most memorable trip.
Maybe some day we can host you to our part of the world. With fondest regards,
Thank you very much for your very nice e-card which we received upon our arrival at home. The card reminded us of the very nice and extremely informative day which we spent on tour with you.
We thank you for that day -- for your kindness, and, most of all, for sharing your expertise.
Good morning Rob,
Thank you for your after-care, Your photos on the web have already given great pleasure.
Yes, we did have a very pleasent flight back, and all too soon we have been confronted with the rigours of every day life.
Once again, thank you for the great time that you organised for us, keep well, and of course we shall hang on to your card, so that upon our return to Cape Town, we shall of course get in touch.
Thank you, Rob,
It was great meeting you and going on the tour. It was excellent, and I (as well as my colleagues) had a fabulous time.
When I come again, I'll definitely look you up. If any of my friends go to Cape Town, I'll definitely tell them to give you a call.
Thank you for a truly wonderful day. We enjoyed learning the history of Cape Town and your knowelge of all we saw.
We will gladly recommend your services to anyone travelling to Cape Town.
Thanks for the pics. I foresee a decline in your business as people see from your website what class of person you fraternize with!
Thank you too for doing such a wonderful job of showing off Cape Town to such an eclectic and irritatingly heterogeneous group. We had a wonderful time.
I've just got back to a host of e-mails; but the only one I really wanted to open was yours. Seems odd too be back in the life of reality again.
Many thanks for the photos which will bring back lots of good memories. Thank you for helping to make our time in Cape Town so fantastic. I enjoyed every minute of it.
Those pictures are great!!! Thanks so much for taking them and sharing them with us and our family/friends. We all had such a treat having you as our guide to your fabulous city. You are a perfect host and advocate for beautiful Cape Town. My parents, Robert and Ashby Cassidy, will be in touch for similar fun in February.
In the meantime, our best to you and the wizard
and many thanks again!
No wonder you are successful - thanks so much for sending this.
My body is still on Africa time, so as it is 4:30 in the morning, I am very much awake. I returned home after a LONG trip yesterday, and I think I am still so excited, that even though I am tired, I can't sleep. I just want to thank you for making our trip so memorable. We had just an absolutely wonderful time with you the days we toured. It was so much fun showing my pictures to everyone and I know I every time I show them, more experiences will come back to me. I hope I can send some of my friends to visit you!
Again, thanks so much and if you ever get to the States, I would love to show you around my part of the country. I hope you don't mind, but I would like to share with you a phrase you use to close your communications. I really like what it means.
Thanks for the email, and I did enjoy during my time in Cape Town, the only thing I regret that the time is too short.
I have to admit that you are a really Professional tour guide, not only you know what are you are talking, but your enthusiasm is always high.
Looking to the other pictures that you've sent it to me, I have told my self that I have to come back to Cape town.
thanks and regards,
Ruth and I are in total agreement that we could not have had a better stay in Capetown and that you contributed in no small measure to making it that wonderful! Thank you for sharing so much information and enthusiam! We feel that we were so fortunate that you were our guide. I look forward to crossing paths with you again soon, either in the US or back here in your beautiful country.
What a wonderful welcome home present! thank you so much the pictures are a lovely reminder of a lovely day.
We had a fantastic trip and I will always remember it - you made the day very special and I felt I learnt a great deal about South Africa and what makes it tick.
If you ever get to London do let me know - I am hoping to return to Cape Town to do a proper photo shoot for the magazine if I do I will let you know.
Very best wishes
Many thanks for these pics. They're fabulous. All those great memories come flooding back.
We had a smashing time and you were a great tour guide. More one of the gang (if a lot more knowledgeable).
I'll look you up the next time I'm over, hopefully this time with the family. You can give us the food tour again.
Until then, best wishes and keep reading.
We are home, safe and sound (suitcases still not fully unpacked...). Mauritius was very nice, but we missed the company of the rest of the family..... Thanks for the wonderful pics, and for your wonderful company for the 2 days we spent with you. The whole family unanimously voted your "guiding" skills as exceptional!! So, the next time you have snook, you must think of us, and especially Mum with her snook's head! Our stay in Cape Town was wonderful, in part thanks to you, but there is so much still to see, so we will have to come back!!
Rob, if ever you are down in Australia, please let us know, 'cos we would love to spend some time with you - with good old Aussie fine wining and dining!!
P/S Jin is dying to try out "The Wizard" when he next has a chance - of course I'll have to be his wizard.
How on earth did you know it was my birthday?!!!! (Did I tell you)? What a lovely surprise to receive your E. card, thank you so much for thinking of me.
Thank you also for such a wonderful day in the wine country, the memory will stay with me for a very long time. Every time I see a piece of lemon, a slice of apple, a piece of chocolate, a bar-be-cued chip and Soya sauce I will think of you! Colin told me to tell you he doesn't drink wine anymore but is hooked on Soya sauce!
We both sincerely hope we will meet up again ..... in fact next time, there is this dung beetle.........!!!
Love Trish x x,
Thanks for making our stay most enjoyable.
Your knowledge and stories were first class. We would never have discovered Cobbs without your help.
Your wine was excellent and we could tastes the vanilla and butterscotch. Thanks again and we look forward to seeing the photos
Dear Mr. Rob Davidowitz,
We have received the photos by email and we thank you very much for your kind assistance.
Anyhow we have been around the wine country, but we miss your enthusiasm knowledge and professional way.
You are the best guide!
Hope this note finds you well. Kirk and I wanted to thank you again for the outstanding two days we spend with you touring the Cape Winelands and Peninsula. We got so much more from our visit, having spent the time with you, than we ever would have had we toured by ourselves. We felt really enriched when we left not only because of the fun we all had together, but also because we benefited from your extensive knowledge of the area. We are truly grateful and hope if you are ever out our way, we can meet again.
Please take care of yourself and give us a jingle if you ever make it to California. We of course will do the same the next time we are in Cape Town.
Our deepest thanks again.
Thank you sending the web link with the pictures. I cannot wait to show them to David!!
We had a fabulous time with you and hope to see you next time we are in your corner of the world!
Thanks for helping us make great memories!
Many thanks for the pix and for this follow up message.
We had an excellent journey home, thank you and are now re-acclimatising to a Northern hemisphere autumn! Leaves to be raked up etc.
Many thanks for your excellent tour on Tuesday: We enjoyed it immensely and it was a very good way to end our stay in South Africa.
Many thanks for the photo Rob it was a nice touch, as was the bottle of wine at dinner that evening which we enjoyed immensely. Many thanks for that, it was most generous of you.
We guessed the figures on the label might be your wife and your dog by the silhouettes, but couldn't work out the meaning behind the name 'Thirteen' unless it referred to your house number. It certainly wasn't unlucky as the wine did you great credit.
You might also pass on to Cape Grace that we thought the hotel was undoubtedly the best we had ever stayed in. The accommodation and food were both superb and the service exemplary. All in all it gave an impression of understated excellence.
Many thanks for your contribution in making our stay in Cape Town so enjoyable.
We loved our three days in Cape Town with you and have raved about your tours - shown pictures to all our friends and are making sure they contact you when coming!
We went on to have more wonderful times in Botswana and Victoria Falls and surely had a trip to remember! Indeed we will be back--and will call on you again!
Thanks again for the great introduction to your country,
We will continue talking the same language as we did during our trips together. Hopefully you can read Dutch as well as you do understand it. Should this not be the case - please let us know and we will send you the next e-mails in English. After a save journey back home we are now again busy with daily business and think back of our incredible journey to Cape Town. How we enjoyed and learned so much! And a great deal of all that is because of you. Your knowledge about history, culture, people, wine, animals and plants is phenomenal. Just a pity you did not know what "wittekattekruid" is.
With all the books and pictures we can extensively report about our journey to Cape Town and its environment. We have managed to animate quite some people to spend their next vacation in Cape Town as well. And of course we made some promotion for you - so you don't have to worry about clients for the coming years.
Our sons were very surprised to receive your e-mail and Pepijn, the oldest, replied to your e-mail to thank you. Hopefully you received it.
As we already told you - should you by any chance be around or near Holland you are hearty welcome. Although we do not have so many wonderful things as you have in South Africa, there are still some nice sites that we would like to show you.
Rob, again, hopefully we'll meet again and wish you lots of luck for you and your wife.
You may have it good (Het ga je goed)
Jan and Nieke Aarts
Sorry to have taken so long to respond to your e-mail message and the photo you sent of us among the penguins. Thanks very much; we loved the picture. We also loved South Africa and our tour of Cape Town and its environs with you. You and your brother do an excellent job of making things extra interesting. We will be pleased to recommend you to anyone visiting South Africa and we will certainly look you up when we make our return visit some day to celebrate our anniversary.
Jon and KT Newton
Thanks so much for the e-card you sent. We loved it. I also wanted to thank you again for helping make our last vacation day in South Africa so wonderful. The Cape Grace did us a big favor by recommending you!
If you can stand it, here are our vacation photos. There's as section at the bottom of the group of our wineland's tour. http://roberts.smugmug.com. And if I do say so myself, there's a particularly nice photo of you and I together at lunch!
Thanks again! and Best regards,
After these several weeks, we are finally back in our world mentally as well as physically. It took a while!
We had the best time in Africa and didn't want to come home. As you know, we loved Cape Town and you definitely helped make it a special visit. Our friends enjoyed receiving the photos you sent and it was fun for us to see their replies. We loved the other places we visited as well and we must come back to Africa!
Hope this finds you well--and thank you again for your excellent guidance!
Judi and Michael Watson.
We are home safe and sound.
The rest of our trip was FABULOUS!!!
We took the same good weather we had in Cape town all through our journey. It was a pleasure meeting you. Cape town is a very special place, and we hope to return some day, and continue the exploration with you.
Thank you for the e-mail and the pictures and, more particularly, THANK YOU for the wonderful time we spent with you visiting the many areas around Cape Town. We have arrived home and are thankful that the return trip is over. I don't feel as if I spent enough time there and NEXT time plan to spend more.
Today will be a recover day and then tomorrow is a get-back-to-business day. Our weather here is unusually cool and that is a great welcome home---sort of like Cape Town weather without the humidity and the rain. "Absolutely beautiful", as we quote a friend!
Best wishes to you and LeAnn. Next time I hope we get to meet her.
First of all many thanks for our two fabulous days wine tasting and touring the Cape area with your expert guidance knowledgeable and sometimes tongue in cheek commentary. We are still not convinced about the invention of the four poster bed, as they were in Europe before South Africa was colonised!!! The super photos were downloaded and printed by our nephew before we flew home from Jo'burg and I have now also done the same here in The Netherlands.
All four of us have now become wine experts and enjoyed terrorising wine waiters during our Garden Route tour. Our 40th anniversary was spent in Johannesburg and took the typical South African form of a "braai" together with the wine bought during the wine tour. Thanks for your "Wizard" anniversary email!!
Are you sure that you did not tip off Budget car Rentals about our 40th, as they upgraded us from a Toyota to a Mercedes!!
Thanks again for forwarding the emails sent by our friends, including Bryan the Kiwi. (he still can't come to terms with the fact that without us Poms they would not know about rugby, cricket and horse racing)
Thanks again Rob and we have recommended you as a guide with a difference to many of our friends including South Africans who can still learn much about their own country as did Elisa and Louise.
Terry and Rosalie Warnock
Thank you very much again for a great time we had together in Cape Town. I can ensure you, that our customers were absolutely astonished with your professionalism and excellent service!!!
Thank you again and see you in the future! - will get back to you regarding hunting in forthcoming months.
Very Best regards
Thank You very much for all Your efforts to make our tour in SAR as one of the best tours in my life! Dima and me, we have enjoyed with You tremendously and we really appreciate it ! You know, it is so warm to see some pictures where we are so far away from home but so happy! So, it is a bit sad for me (and I am sure for Dima too) that such a wonderful trip is over and now it becomes a part of that kind of memory which is always very plesent to remember!
Thank You so much again and hopefully one day we will meet You and Lien here, in North America , so we will be very glad to share Your very friendly and lovely company again!
My best regards to Lien!
As I say where do we start......thanks so much for the wonderful day that you shared with us in the Winelands around Cape Town. You are indeed a lucky man to call that your home. Amy and I both learnt so much about wine, the Winelands and the cape in general. We also got to know and enjoy your company during our time together and it was great to be able to do that, especially over lunch!!!.
Thanks for the fantastic photographs that you took and for sending them out to our friends and family, I know that they appreciate that as much as we did.
Thanks for the bon voyage wishes that you sent us, as well as the Birthday greetings that I received earlier this week that was unexpected though very welcome and warmly received.
Lastly thanks for taking so much care of, and interest in, both Amy and I and all your guests, and for truly making us feel special and welcome to Cape Town and your world.
We look forward to our family and friends meeting you and experiencing the same wonderful time that we did if ever they visit SA and also look forward to when we may meet again for some more good times.
One last thing, just to say that you contributed greatly to what was already a very special trip, our honeymoon and we are both very grateful.
until next take care and best regards
John and Amy Bird
Thanks for a wonderful insight to your country, we'll be back to see more! Hope to catch up with you next January. Thanks also for the photo's.
Great to meet you. Reading about you on the web we have something in common, we also love the Banyan Tree in Thailand we went 3 years ago, heaven!
Back to work - All the very best
Nicola and Keith Braidwood
Thank you again for a wonderful tour of Cape Town! We absolutely loved our stay there.
I know my friends Renae and Scott Wenner also enjoyed their tour with you. I will continue to recommend you to anyone else I know who is heading your way. You really did a fabulous job!
Thank you so much and have a wonderful new year!
I just opened your picture. Many thanks for the great touring and tasting.
The rest of our trip was great. We went to Paarl after Cape Town and continued our tasting. The Grande Roche was clearly the best place we stayed at as you suggested. You have a beautiful country.
It was the best trip Sue and I have been on. Your time with us contributed greatly to that assessment
Just a note to say that the Whitings arrived home safely on Thursday - and have reported that they had the most wonderful time with you!
So thanks enormously from me - will be very happy to be a ref. for you and sincerely hope to send you more clients. However, people here just don't seem to be traveling at the moment....
Kindest regards and thank you again for all that you did with my clients!
Greeting from the states!
Thank you for a wonderful time and memories you gave me while I was in your city. The pictures are great too.
I arrived home about four hours ago and couldn't wait to see the photos. I will send you copies of the one's I took soon.
Again, thank you for a wonderful time and I am certain our path will cross again someday.
Thank you so much for showing us your beautiful city and giving us such a personal insight into the people and the land. We will not forget our days spent with you although Andy was a little hazy after the Witzblitz! We are also trying hard not to judge other South Africans by you - we are certain there must be SOME sane people in the country and possibly even some funny jokes knocking about!!
Seriously though, thanks again
Andy and Rebecca Instance
You're quite a "wizard" yourself on the computer. Thanks for all the pictures and especially, a great tour of Cape Town. I met some friends who were visiting the Cape Grace and highly recommended you (I didn't tell them the wizard secret.)
We had a wonderful time in the bush and you were right about Joburg. By the way, we again visited a township named Soweto. A good idea. The tour group hired an actual "community leader" from the township come on the bus and give us a tour through his community. They then did a lunch but, not nearly as nice as the one you arranged.
I have a great picture of you too which, I'll forward soon.
Stew Leonard and family
Loli and I had such a wonderful time with you in Cape Town. Thank you for sharing your knowlege and enthusiasm with us!!
We would also be delighted to join you and Leann for dinner when we return through Cape Town.
Looking forward to seeing you and meeting your wife.
Talk about "Happy Campers" - Dick and Sue seem to be having a wonderful time with scenery and wines abounding! Thank you SO much for sending the photos - a lovely surprise. And I am glad you enjoyed these very dear friends! I can't wait to hear more from them when they return.
Again - thank you for everything! You have been great and I will give you a reference any time.... you can be sure that if I send anyone to Cape Town again, they will be in touch with you. Unhappily I don't send very many people to Africa since the economic mess here! But you will always be in my mind.
My best regards to you and to your wife and again, thank you so very much for making the Whitings visit very personal and special.
Many thanks for putting the photos online. We had a fabulous time. You humour made it a real fun day out. Thank you from both of us.
Katia and Meiling
Thank you so much for the pictures. We had a wonderful trip and appreciate all that you did to make it so special. The paintings arrived
this week as a further reminder of our time in South Africa.
Thank you so much for the wonderful holiday. We had a terrific time and I have been
sharing your pictures with everyone. My only regret is that we didn't get a
picture of you to show to our friends so that they could see the person who made
our trip so special.
We really enjoyed showing our Cape Town and Wine Country photos to friends and family. They marvelled at the scenery and enjoyed the lovely wine that we brought back as gifts! We hope that your business and family are well, and look forward to staying in touch. Please let us know if you are ever planning to travel out this way!
All the best,
Thank you Rob! The pictures are greaaaat!
We got home on Sunday after quite a lengthy flight from Jo'burg. We still can't believe all the things that we did and places we saw. Just looking at the pictures, I can't believe that I was there.
Thanks again for showing us beautiful Cape town and sharing some SA culture with us!
Many thanks for a wonderful day, we are looking forward to sampling the wine when we get it. We really enjoyed your country and its people, we will be back.
Look after yourself and we hope to see you next time we visit Cape Town.
Thank you so very much for the "Welcome Home" picture of our most enjoyable lunch with you on our first day ever with our "new found friend."
Please give our regards to your bride and rest assured on our next visit we would love to meet and get to know her as well. I received the wine sites but have not had the time to explore them.
Thanks for the great pictures. Natalie and I had a wonderful time in Cape town. The only problem was it was too short. You and Selwyn made it a memorable experience. The rest of our trip was also great.
Remember, if you ever come to the US we'd love to have you visit.
What a nice surprise finding your welcome-home mail after our return from South Africa! You always have these brilliant ideas that make touring with you so special and individual. We were really lucky to have you as our guide and want to thank you once again for all the information, driving us around, feeding us and for your nice company.
We hope that you also had some fun on the two days that you spent with us and that you and your family are doing well.
We wish you the very best and send you our warmest regards from Stuttgart.
My husband and I are world travelers. In the past ten years we have visited numerous countries and encountered various tours and guides. By far you are the most excellent, personal, concise, informative and exciting guide we have ever experienced. We highly recommend your services to anyone traveling to Cape Town South Africa.
The time we spent with you in Cape Town will be the most memorable of our travel itinerary.
Thank you for your expertise, humor, knowledge and professionalism.
Cape Town and you will always have a special place in our hearts.
I just want to thank you very much for everything you did for Ken and myself during our stay in Cape Town. The tour off the beaten track was definitely an eye-opener for us and the little souvenir of nuts and fruits was scrumptious. It never made out of Cape Town.
In addition to all that, the pictures you took of us are loved by friends and family. You have been wonderful to us and look forward to seeing you again soon. You are the best.
Hi Rob and fondest greetings from Canada!
Sorry we didn't respond sooner to your e mail but believe it or not we've only been home a week. From Kenya we spent some time in England and Scotland, and so here we are, back in the saddle!
We had a marvelous holiday. . .and thanks to YOU. . .a fantastic kick off!! Your advice to drive to Plettenburg Bay was the BEST! We loved every minute, including staying with Vivian and Gerald. What a great spot!! (You should really try it out yourselves.. Bosevern!)
Thanks again for everything Rob...our boys got quite a charge out of viewing us on your web site!
Remember, British Columbia is only a mere 22 hours away and you've got a set of new friends here now!
All the very best from us both.
It was truly a pleasure to tour with you last February! We had a fabulous time and thank you for the experience. I hope all is well by you and that you are keeping pleasantly entertained.
Once again thank you so much for the excellent day presented by a most enthusiastic advocate of the area including information on wine / history /politics and scenery. We are dissappointed not to have the benefit of your knowledge on the trip to Cape Point however we are happy to report that the hotel staff have arranged an alternative in your stead. We will absolutely take your advice on the trip up the garden route.
Having spent this informative and interesting time with you , we are encouraged to note that professionalism is not dead. All the best in your future endeavours. We hope all climates in this area continue most favourably to allow for it to be you ongoing choice of residence.
With sincere thanks and appreciation.
We arrived back today safe and sound and already back to work this afternoon. We were very lucky to have met you and Selwyn, as without both of you we would have missed most of the beautiful places and we have made new friends.
It was great meeting such wonderful people and so easy to understand each other without any big show and energy.
Angela and I are now safely back in the UK after a very smooth flight. We would like to thank you for the enjoyable time that we spent with you in Cape Town. We certainly left South Africa with a lot more knowledge than before we arrived, and it was a very enjoyable way to learn! We really loved Cape Town, and we can honestly say that it was probably the best holiday we have had.
I could not find any emailed photos from you, so I searched and found your web site and was quite amazed to find that we were there for all to see - very clever!
Anyway, once again, many thanks, and if you are coming to the UK, please let us know. It would be good to meet up if possible.
Our visit to Cape Town was very enriching and I feel so fortunate that you were our guide. Your political, cultural and economic commentary as well as local folklore and childhood experiences provided the perfect context for our tours. Each day I think about different aspects of the trip and gain new insights. This is the kind of trip that continues to bring joy long after it has ended.
Hope to see again.
Thank you very much for kneidlech recipe as well as the nice regards from Cape Town we hope to see you back very soon either in c.t. or in Zurich. Possible we send you very soon some nice clients.
regards and (kisses only from Helene!!!) bye bye
Thank you so much for sending the pictures to all of our friends and to us. We had such a wonderful time with you that day....there were many times on the trip when the children would bring up your name and the igloo joke...well, I cannot say that I want to hear it again.
South Africa was a tremendous experience for us and your knowledge helped with this. You were fantastic with the kids and really allowed them to be themselves and ask you all the questions they wanted.
Thanks a lot for the nice pictures you have been sending to us and our sons.
Best regards also to your wife.
Thanks so much for sending the web page pictures. They are great and I look forward to sharing them with friends. I so enjoyed our visit to the wine country and will recommend you with enthusiasm to any friends who will be visiting South Africa.
You had mentioned your wife's fantastic recipe for butternut soup. I'd love it--and I promise to give her (and you) full credit every time I serve it.
Many thanks, and all the best.
The pictures are great and remind me of our very good day with you. I really did enjoy our time together and your choices of places to visit, the scenery and your stories.
Loved Your homepage with all the pictures and have of course sendt them to all our friends. Very positive returns from them. Thank You also for Your welcome back message, We will stay in touch for our next trip to SA. Weather here is wintery without the snow, and we're all back to work!
I liked your way of thinking as regards leaving the rat race and becoming a pensioner........
Best wishes Elisabeth and Fred.
It was great meeting you. Everyone had a terrific time and thanks you. Dan and I got home yesterday after having spent 4 days in London seeing friends. We really appreciated all you did for us.
Thanks for your time and effort making our short stay in Cape Town so enjoyable....you must both come and see us in Australia some time soon.
Just a short note to pass along a sincere thank you for your very kind and thoughtful message regarding the dreadful acts of terror here in the U.S... Gayle, along with Marce and Lee send along their thaks also. It was very kind of you to think of us.
On a lighter note, we are all back in the routine after a wonderful stay in Kenya and Cape town. We have shared many stories with our friends and we will not soon forget our 3 days with you. Each day was a different adventure, but each was thoroughly enjoyed, by each of us. The "squatters" are, of course, another matter. It certainly doesn't give one a lot of encouragement that this situation will soon be resolved, if ever. I hope Armstrong can persevere and somewhere down the road have some kind of impact....I certainly don't envy his position, but maybe, just maybe he will be able to help his fellow man in some manner, shape or form.....Anyway, great to hear from you plus thanks for the email photos etc....also, please give our best to Wilson, the Whale Crier of Hermanus!!!!!
Let us hear from you as things hopefully progress and we will pass along your good name to any of our friends which might head your way.
Thanks for the wonderful time in Cape Town.
We found your tour to be very informative and will definitely call you when we return to Cape Town. We will also recommend anyone, coming down your way, to tour with you.
Clerissa, Darryl, Hanna and Emma Harms.
Thanks for the pictures. Our family appreciated them and the panorama came out as well as you said it would. Hard to believe it was easy to do.
Thanks for wishing us well for the eclipse. We also want to thank you generally for your friendship and all the bits of information you gave us. It really rounded out our understanding of both history and the present day situation. We would certainly go with you again.
Anyhow, we have liberally sprinkled your name around along with all the bits of information you gave us -- the gables, the way to estimate the age of glass and piano key, the road barriers and the difference in living standards and the problems of trying to maintain a first world country in the midst of third world cultures. Anyhow, many thanks again for the pictures and everything else.
Have fun and think good thoughts.
Art and Alice Yuwiler.
Hello, we hope all is well with you. We have told so many people about our wonderful experience touring with you and your vast knowledge of Cape Town and it's history. We thoroughly enjoyed all the unique places you took us to visit and eat. We will always remember the ox tail Justin ordered and Larry's goose. The highlight of the trip was the cable car ride to the top of table mountain at sunset - absolutely breath taking. The pictures we took turned out great. Thanks for all the pictures you sent us, I down loaded them yesterday. Our family and friends thought it was fun to see so quickly the things we were doing each day, a special treat for them and us.
Everyday we spent in Africa has a special memory. We met wonderful people like you, had good weather, food and adventures that we will treasure for a lifetime.
Thank you once again for everything.
A quick note before you leave on the garden tour and we crash after our 28-hour trip home.
We had a perfect vacation, thanks to you. I didn't realize how much we'd learned until we started to go through our itinerary and pictures when we arrived home. Your suggestions about where to stay and what to see were perfect. And the restaurants you took us to were superb. I would not have changed one thing.
Better yet, we now have a friend in SA. Your hospitality could not be more complete and your excitement about Cape Town is infectious. We felt like we were in the hands of someone who would (and did) go out of his way to make sure Jali and I had the best time possible. Your trip to the farm to pick up the wine was over the top!
I look forward to reading your column each week, and I'll do what I can to send some friends your way.
May the wizard watch over you and may our paths cross again.
Sandra and Jali Becker
We loved everything about the few days with you - That you love Cape Town is so apparent. You encouraged the group to see your beautiful city and its environs with and honest clarity. Through your eyes we saw the many wonders and sadness of this struggling metropolis.
You are a rare individual with a marvelous ability to give so much of yourself to your guests. Everyone appreciated all you did to make the highlights "Over the top"
Robert, thank you for making us look "SO" good! Please keep in touch and we look forward to seeing you again.
With great warmth!Roberta and Arnold

Hello Rob and Lee Anne,
I have wanted to write to you both since I got back. We have had an incredibly busy few weeks with getting organized after vacation and heading back to work.
I mainly wanted to praise you for giving us the most unbelievable touring experience. I have been telling everyone about how great it was that you provide such a fine service as a tour guide. We certainly felt you went above and beyond any tour guide that we could have found anywhere. Upon leaving Cape Town we are still sad to have left such wonderful people and the truly beautiful land that we experienced.
Today is Mother's day here so we just finished a visit with Mom and showed her all the wonderful pictures of Cape Town. They were very impressed! Everyone here is very shocked at the beauty and sophistication of your city as were we.
Anyway, I must get going. If you would ever need a reference do not hesitate to have folks e-mail us. We would be delighted to help you any way we can! We hope to see you both again!!
Many thanks for the email – we are now back in the UK and the weather is as you would expect cloudy – Oh to be back in Cape Town.
We had a truly magnificent day with you and would like to express our thanks to your excellent guiding.

We've made it back to Georgia. What a great trip! The excellent tour you gave us was a real highlight, an unforgettable time. We all appreciated the background information you gave us on the sights and the history of Cape Town. This really enhanced our appreciation of what we were experiencing. Everyone told me how much fun they had and how much they enjoyed you. Thank you so much for making this a special time for all of us. We all want to come back!!
The photo album is great. Thank you for doing that for us.
Again, thank you for an exceptional tour and your friendship. Please let us know if you are coming our way, we will all welcome you to our part of the world!
I just wanted to get back to you to say thanks again. You provided a view into Cape Town and South African society (and Jewish South Africa) that we never expected to experience. I expect many of issues we discussed and things we saw to reappear in various ways as the kids grow up. I will look forward to sharing this in future communications.
Please express our appreciation to Leigh Anne (sp?) for her including us in her plans. Natasha is discussing services in Cape Town at her Hebrew school class today.
We had a little trouble leaving Cape Town. Our A300 lost an engine on take off and we had to make an emergency landing back at the airport. Fortunately, it went well and we were still able to get our flight out of Jo'berg.
Again, I hope our paths cross in the future. Please let us know if your plans will take you this way. We'll have a nice memory over the years as we consume the wine.

A quick line to thank you for Geri's and my tour around the Peninsula last week. Despite being very tired I enjoyed it hugely, and I'm looking forward to getting my photos back later today. Cape Town, as you don't need telling, is very beautiful and I'm so glad I made the effort to visit your city. Managable sunshine (i.e. not TOO hot) and clear blue skies will be my abiding memory.
The contrast when I got back to England was extraordinary - yesterday two of the main roads into London were closed because of ... snow ! In April !
By the way, the day after Geri and the others left, I did go up the cable car onto Table Mountain, and I did take your advice about standing against the mountain and it was very dramatic. Thanks for the tip! I went up planning a half-hour visit, but ended up walking the length of the mountain (to Maclear's Beacon). Only problem is I forgot the sunscreen and got a bit burnt! Then had a very nice walk down Government Avenue to the Cathedral, as also recommended by you.
Thanks again for all your advice.
Had a great time with you in Cape Town and a most enjoyable total visit in South Africa last week.
Thank you for all of your courtesies and for sending the photos and negatives so that I may make copies to distribute. I look forward to receiving them.
Thank you for your welcome home card. We had a great time. You really made us welcome in Cape Town and put in a lot of effort to make certain everything went smoothly for us. Our entire trip turned out very well. We enjoyed every aspect of it. We didn't get to all of the vineyards you recommended but we did get to about 50% of them. We also discovered pinochet - a uniquely South African grape and a very pleasing wine style. We have managed to hunt down some here.
Milt and I definitely plan to return. Maybe we will do zululand next time.

Thanks a lot for your emails and photos. You must be thinking that we have forgotten you as we did not reply immediately - soory about that, it was just because I was not too well. I have had to have two medical check ups but it seems to be going better now.
Thanks a lot for the wonderful trip and your company - we are all so pleased and happy. The children keep talking about you two to their parents so now everyone wants to know who are that Rob and Selwyn who stole the hearts of their kids. I contacted you as a tour organisr (incidentally, it is the first time that Ven and I have travlled with a tour organiser - we always thought they were uninteresting people!!) and we ended up becoming friends - is that not great. For all of us, this friendship was the most valuable part of the tour. We will not forget you so easily - it was simply great- you know this feeling of *bien-etre*, inner happiness, togertheness, harmony ....
I do hope we could travel together again but we all want to welcome you and bore you with our endless bla, bla, bla, our
local food, etc etc in our country and our homes. I dont think that a jump over to Mtius is so difficult? See you soon.
Thank you warmly for the photos, which have gone down marvellously with everyone who has seen them. We have the group, yes, that fantastic balcony and also you, Aissa and Michelle. Thanks too for that hilarious article in the Argus, we have all had a good laugh. Partly because of the journalistic licence and invention but also because it will remind us in a vivid and unusual way of the tremendous time we had in CT.
We much appreciated your advice and guiding over several days and I hope you felt we were responsive. As an ex-teacher I know all about that. It was a real stroke of luck that I was actually able to get to Cape Point - and sample two helpings of Pollsmore catering into the bargain!!
You can imagine that we have been talking through our "Millennium Experience" with friends and amongst ourselves. Tomorrow we have another big get-together to compare photographs....that could take an hour or two.
Our address is:
4 Chadwell Gardens
If we return to CT one day ( other plans and destinations permitting!), we shall be in touch for sure. In the meantime, we shall mention you to anyone who is heading Capewards and needs a bit of cultural guidance.
My daughter came round and showed me how to download your photos, so I now have them all printed out full size. Aren't they great? A really lovely memento of a fabulous day out.
Many, many thanks, Rob.
We are envying your weather, as you may have heard we are still getting storms and heavy rain every other day, luckily we don't have any problems here although we are close to the Thames, just keep our fingers crossed!
I want to thank you again for the wonderful time we had. We are trying to find Merv Johns but are unable. Sandy did not work for him.
Again thank you and feel free to use me as a reference.
