SynopsisEnterprise Architecture is a complete model of the enterprise; a master plan which acts as an integrating force between aspects of business planning such as goals, visions, strategies and governance principles; aspects of business operations such as business terms, organisation structures, processes and data; aspects of automation such as application systems and databases; and the enabling technological infrastructure of the business such as computers, operating systems and networks.
By means of a survey of current business literature, this paper shows how current business topics such as intellectual capital, organisational learning, strategic planning, organisational design, competitive advantage, mass customisation, business reengineering and systems delivery, all require a model of the business such as is provided by Enterprise Architecture.
The paper concludes that the Enterprise Architecture is an imperative for any enterprise that intends to be a serious player in the information age.
