| OVERVIEW | TITLE |
|
This book on fasting comprises synopses addressing the rules of fasting, some philosophies, some benefits and lessons of fasting, the proper manners when fasting, and the Sunnah, or tradition and practice of the Prophet (peace be upon him), as it relates to the fast. It is a brief summary presented in the hope that Almighty Allah makes it a source of benefit. Almighty Allah also made fasting dear to the Ummah and facilitated it so that their souls don’t feel too overburdened for having to stop their habits and abandon things that they are accustomed to. Allah the Most Gracious and Exalted said: (Interpretation of the meaning): Observing the fast for a fixed number of days… …but if any of you are ill or on a journey, the same number (should be made up) [during] other days… Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:184. He had mercy on his worshippers as he distanced them from that which would cause them discomfort and harm. Therefore, it is not surprising that the hearts of the believers draw near to Allah, the Most Merciful, during this month, fearing Him, and hoping for His rewards and the ultimate triumph in the Hereafter. Due to the importance of this act of worship, it is essential for one to learn the precepts and rulings relating to the month of Ramadan, so that each Muslim knows what is obligatory, so that he can do it, what is prohibited, so he can avert it, and what is permissible so he does not strain or overburden himself by abstaining from it unnecessarily. |
