Irene's Music

I am a music teacher with an honours degree in music education and music technology from the University of Pretoria. Subjects specialised in were: Singing, Piano, Choral Direction, Ethnomusicology, Music for Children and Music Technology.

Over the past 10 years I have worked with children of all cultures and ages in and around Johannesburg and led the Volkswagen Musicactive Workshops in 1996 and 1997. A multi-cultural songbook with dances and integrated activities suitable for Outcomes Based Education has recently been completed and comes with a compact disc and transparency masters.

I sequence song accompaniments in MIDI format for all kinds of occasions, from weddings to school productions. I also do vocal coaching.

I have directed and produced two musicals, two operettas and six revues since 1992.

In 1998 I studied voice at the Royal Academy of Music in London with Anthony Hocking and in Brighton with Stephen Ellis.

Since 1989 I have occupied various organist posts at Protestant churches in Pretoria and Johannesburg.

Choral experience includes children's' choirs, a Youth choir and various mixed voices. A ladies' barbershop song group and various male ensembles have also been coached. Various choral arrangements have been made for all kinds of vocal compositions.

I am also the composer of school songs for HoŽrskool President and HoŽrskool Centurion.

I have taught piano since 1985 and was the accompanist of the Colla Voce Youth Choir in 1997 and 1998.
