Klub's breeding requirements

For the aid our of newer members and to remind some of our older members. Listed below are step by step instructions of what members must do when they wish to breed with their dogs.

  1. Apply for membership of the Weimaraner Klub of the Transvaal. Contact Hon Secretary - Jayne Bagley.
  2. Apply for membership of the Kennel Union of Southern Africa. (KUSA) Tele 021-23-9027.
  3. Dogs must not only be registered with KUSA, but ownership transferred from breeders to existing owner/s name.
  4. Dogs and bitches must be X-rayed for Hip Dysplasia Grading. Contact your vet who will arrange the X-rays and ask him to send them to Professor Kirburger for certification. He will send you a Certificate or report on his findings. Dogs receiving gradings of HD FREE and GRADE 1.1 are passed for breeding. (A grade 1.1 to a free partner). Gradings higher than mentioned will not be passed for breeding by the club or will its progeny be registered with KUSA.
  5. Contact Jayne Bagley of the Weimaraner Klub to have your dog evalued. Dogs/bitches must be 18 months or older. Special circumstances may be considered by the Breeding Committee. A copy of the dogs/bitches KUSA registration and a copy of Professor Kirburgers HD report must be given to the Breeding Committee. Dogs/bitches must receive an evaluation of not less than "good" to be approved for mating.
  6. Owners of bitches can advise the Breeding Committee of the male they would like to use at stud. (Subject to the owner of the stud dog having complied with items 1, 2, 3, 4, 5), or contact the Breeding Committee timeously for recommendations.
  7. Once the mating has been decided upon and approved by the Breeding Committee the owner of the bitch must obtain a form from the Clubs Secretary officially authorising the mating. Upon a successful completion of the mating the bottom section of the form must be completed by the owner of the bitch and returned to the clubs postal address. The mating will be announced in the clubs newsletter.
  8. Once the litter has been born the breeder must inform the clubs Secretary.
  9. When the puppies are 2/3 days old the breeder must have the tails and dew claws removed. (For advice and assistance contact the secretary).
  10. When the litter is 6 to 7 weeks old puppies that are passed by the Breeding Committee must be tattooed. (Defective puppies and puppies with too much white will not be tattooed or receive club pedigrees). Contact the clubs Secretary when the litter is around 5 weeks old to arrange for the tattooing to be done.
  11. The owner of the bitch must register the litter with KUSA. Application forms for registration can be obtained from the club or KUSA.
  12. Once the registrations have been received from KUSA the application for club pedigrees must be completed and submitted to the clubs secretary so that club pedigrees can be obtained. Application form available from the secretary.

Members living outside the Guateng Province are encouraged to follow the above as far as possible.

It might read that there is lots to do to get a mating done with your dogs. But by following the above simple steps, IN THE ORDER AS LISTED it can save you the heart ache of finding out that you cannot register your puppies with KUSA because of bad HD. Also the club is then in a position to put you in contact with people who are on the clubs puppy waiting list.
