Cape Records Anniversary Celebrations

Luncheon in Honour of Alex Henshaw

A luncheon has been scheduled for Friday 26th November in honour of Alex Henshaw's Cape Records flight. The luncheon, at which Alex Henshaw himself will be present, will be held at the Officers' Mess, Ysterplaat Air Force Base. This is only a short distance away from the now disused Wingfield Aerodrome, where Mr Henshaw will unveil a memorial plaque earlier in the day.

The luncheon is being arranged under the auspices of the South African Air Force Association, a benevolent non-profit organisation which provides assistance and services for ex members of the South African Air Force. Invitations will be extended to Civic and military dignitaries, as well as personalities from the world of aviation.

Amongst those already invited is Victor Smith, a South African aviation pioneer who in 1932 and 1933 carried out a number of epic flights on his own account. It was only through sheer bad luck that he failed to establish records at that time both for the Cape-England and the England-Cape flights.
