fricaOne
is a virtual Contemporary Arts and Crafts marketplace offering some of
the most exciting and beautiful contemporary crafts available from South
Africa today. Everything available at AfricaOne is hand made and designed
by the craftsmen and women involved.
South Africa
is on the threshold of an exciting era having finally cast off the chains
of apartheid and thus begun the growth and expansion it has sorely missed
for so many years. As a result there has been an explosion of indigenous
crafts and arts drawing on a rich, unique heritage of ethnic and traditional
designs creating a contemporary art that, due to apartheid and economic
sanctions has never been seen or available before. Craftsmen, craftswomen
and artists are now enjoying the new freedom and ability to trade beyond
our borders resulting in an almost unprecedented wealth of diverse design
and crafts.
In some ways
it's almost like several countries have sprung up where before there was
only one. South Africa enjoys eleven official languages and even more
cultures, all with their own unique brand of both traditional and contemporary
crafts and art.
