If you have hiking boots and enjoy what nature has to offer then this page is for you!

Our Mission

Using trails as a tool for conservation, Boksburg Hiking Club is a leader in trail protection efforts, with the philosophy that one of the greatest tributes people can pay the natural environment is to get outside and enjoy it.

Who we are

We are a local club dedicated to promoting hiking and to protecting and maintaining adventure hiking  trails in Southern Africa. We try to bring national focus to an array of trail and conservation issues by close co-operation with other hiking clubs and nature conservation bodies.

For our members we offer a wide selection of adventure trail options throughout the country. All levels of hikers, from experienced to novice and all age groups are catered for. We are organising at least one hike every weekend. Visitors can join the club on maximum three hikes before signing on as a member

Contact Information

Club meetings are held at 19h30 on the first Wednesday of every month in Comet Sports and Recreation Centre on Farar Street. See Location Map for directions. If you know where Comet suburb of Boksburg is check Detail Map to show you exactly where to go. (Press "Back" button on your browser to return here.)

Next meeting 3rd November 1999 ! ! !

Hikers  share their impressions from last month's hikes and forthcoming hikes are briefly described by hike leaders. Other actions by Boksburg Hiking Club are also discussed as well as general club matters. Talk shows and slide presentations are sometimes offered. You can book and pay for your hikes to respective hike leaders and if you are not a member yet you can apply for membership by speaking to our bookkeeper Revo Landman.

Annual membership fee is R70 for a family and R60 for a single member. Cost of a typical weekend hike is R90  per person maximum. Transport cost is shared among occupants of the car.

After the formal meeting, that is usually completed in an hour, hikers are encouraged to gather in the outside area around a fire where we have "Bring and Braai" and where more informal discussions are held among the hikers. It so happens that these meetings can sometimes end late at night.
