Silhouette Shooting in Switzerland

The first activities in Metallic Silhouette Shooting in Switzerland started in 1991 and quite a few matches were held on a military shooting range in central Switzerland. Despite Switzerland’s reputation as a country of shooters and with numerous civilian and military shooting ranges spread all over the country, the young silhouette community faced an enormous problem to find a permanent shooting range. Later one was eventually found on the private premises of an ammunition testing company in 1994. This ultimately led to the foundation of today’s Association of Swiss Metallic Silhouette Shooters (VSMS = Verein Schweizer Metallsilhouetten Schützen). As of 1999, the VSMS counts 38 members and roughly half of them are active shooters. The VSMS is the only recognized body in Switzerland for metallic silhouette shooting.

Range Facilities

The range is located in a mountainous region of central Switzerland, about 40 minutes from Zurich. The maximum shooting range is 200 yards and there are the following range facilities:

· 1 concrete building as day room, office and gun storage during matches
· 2 mobile (storm proven) tents to host upto 4 shooters each
· 1 set of 10 targets each for Big Bore Handgun including swingers
· 1 set of 10 targets each for Small Bore Handgun including swingers
· 1 set of 10 targets each for ½ size unlimited including swingers
· 1 set of 10 targets each for Field pistol including swingers
· Swingers for Small Bore Rifle
· 1 chicken swinger for Big Bore Rifle
