PEACE
The word is almost a mockery.
Politicians link hands, hug each other, and sign Peace Treaties; they make vote catching speeches about lasting peace here and there; millions have marched, burned candles and rioted in the cause of peace AND WHAT DO WE HAVE?
In 1945 the U.N. was established for peace-keeping in the world but in the 50th ANNIVERSARY YEAR there are 87 national conflicts raging.In this "50 YEARS OF PEACE" ! "There's not been a day when there wasn't a war somewhere".
It has been calculated that this century has seen more wars, and more deaths from war, than any previous century. The Secretary-General of the U.N. has likened his job to "trying to repair a car driving at 120 miles per hour"!
Over "FOURTEEN PEACE-KEEPING OPERATIONS have been launched since 1989, more than the total undertaken in the previous 44 years." (Newsweek)
MOST DESIRED
Without doubt, Peace is the most desired, most needed, yet MOST ELUSIVE element in the world today.
THE NEW AGE MOVEMENT is taking full advantage of this yearning for peace and have set up 60,000 peace poles at selected places throughout the world, inscribed with the words in various languages, "May Peace Prevail on Earth". They have also issued Christmas cards with various languages and occultic symbols and the DOVE with the words: "Let the spirit of Peace renew our world".
People are so gullible that they will blindly follow anyone who skilfully puts himself forward as a champion of peace.
DON'T BE DECEIVED
The temporary cessation of mass killing, wherever it takes place, is not peace. Certain recent agreements are held up as examples of how peace can be attained between bitter enemies but we've seen too many such agreements and while thankful for any respite from killings, we know it is only temporary. YOU CAN BE SURE OF THIS: true world peace is not on the horizon.
WATCH OUT FOR THIS: if a state of international peace should seem to be developing, almost certainly it would be the signal that what we read in 1 Thessalonians 5:3 would be about to take place, "When they say peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh."
Rather than world peace just around the corner, the nations are preparing for the GREATEST CONFLAGRATION the world has ever seen, centred in the Middle East. (Read Revelation 9:13 - 18 and 16:12 - 14)
AN INFALLIBLE GUIDE
Those who know their Bible know we're living in the last days when, instead of peace, we are assured that "you will hear of wars and rumours of wars...for nation shall rise against nation and kingdom against kingdom" which includes tribe against tribe as we see developing all over the world. Read Matthew 24 and Luke 21 and see how all prophecy is being so rapidly fulfilled today.
ISRAEL'S DILEMMA
IS IT PEACE AT LAST between Israel and her enemies? In the interest of peace at any price and pressure from America the present leaders are giving away what we believe God gave to them in THE MIRACLE 6-DAY WAR. There is no simple solution to the Israeli/Moslem conflict. Only God has the answer because He IS bringing His covenant people back to the land of Israel in fulfilment of His many promises, but we acknowledge that the Palestinians also have rights.
The rivalry which started in ABRAHAM'S HOUSE nearly 4000 years ago, (Genesis 15:1 - 5; chapter 16 and 17:15 - 21; 21:1 - 10) has continued ever since and is fast reaching the climax. No human manipulation or pressure will produce peace in the Middle East; rather we see this as probably the start of greater trouble for Israel, and indeed the whole world.
IS THERE ANY HOPE OF PEACE ?
Whatever peace was on the earth in previous centuries, the advent of the RED HORSE onto the world stage took peace from the earth, (Revelation 6:4) so that now we see being fulfilled with increasing demonic fervour the setting of not just nation against nation, but Satanic uprisings in all communities everywhere.
There isn't a place on earth where you could go and be at peace today.
THE REASON
Thomas á Kempis put it well: "All men desire peace but very few desire those things that make for peace."
True peace cannot be organised nor can might of arms enforce it. Since the fall of man and woman in the garden of Eden (Genesis 3) mankind the world over has been in REBELLION AGAINST GOD. In Isaiah 59:2 we read, "Your sins have seperated between you and God so He will not hear".
No matter how we try, we cannot find real peace until we are at PEACE WITH GOD OUR MAKER.
God created man for Himself and for eternity and NOTHING can satisfy the eternal void in the human heart; not wealth, nor power, nor position, nor possessions. Nor can any religious observance, however sacrificially executed, produce peace in the troubled heart. MANY ARE GREATLY TROUBLED, full of fear, and attending psychiatrists. They cannot explain what is wrong but are conscious of SOMETHING MISSING in life. In their desperate state many turn to drink, or drugs while others try desperately to satisfy that aching void by burying themselves in religion.
THE SURE WAY OF PEACE
Peace is not found in religion. TRUE PEACE is only found in being in union with the living God and there is ONLY ONE WAY of this being so. God sent His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, into the world 2000 years ago, born of a virgin called Mary, to take the sin, the rebellion, the lostness of all the world upon himself and to OFFER HIMSELF as a sacrifice. This He did as He was nailed to a cross outside Jerusalem TAKING OUR PLACE in death so that we could be brought back into union with God, thereby making peace for all who trust Him. "He is our peace", (Ephesians 2:14) "HE made peace through the blood of His cross." (Colossians 1:20)
NO EASY WAY
You will never experience the peace which Jesus gives till you forsake all your evil ways, your dependence on dead religion, worship of images, indulging in the lustful pleasures of the world and involvement in its corruption. But TO THOSE WHO TURN TO HIM with all their heart He says: "Peace I leave with you, MY PEACE I give unto you, not as the world gives do I give." "IN ME YOU WILL HAVE PEACE" while "in the world you shall have tribulation." (John 14:27; 16:33)
JESUS ALSO SAID that His coming brings a sword.
There may be unity in the home as husband and wife are united in atheism, or in religion, or in drinking and carousing together; then one trusts in Jesus and turns to follow Him and instead of peace in the home great division developes.
WHAT SHOULD THE CHRISTIAN DO NOW? Stand fast, display that peace as far as possible and pray for the companion.
PEACE
The wind was howling and mountainous waves were crashing against the cliff but hidden in a cleft of the rock was A LITTLE BIRD with its head under its wing, fast asleep.
As the storms of life hit us, it is perfect peace when we KNOW WHO'S IN CONTROL.
THE LITTLE GIRL on the ship being awakened by the noise in a violent storm, asked "What's all the noise?" On being told, "Don't you see the way we are being dashed around by the waves?" she asked, "Isn't my father on the bridge?" "Yes....but...", "THEN I'M GOING BACK TO BED!"
