WHO HAS NOT ?
Perhaps this is what you say. At a meeting of around
200 people here, the speaker asked all who have fear to stand; nearly the
whole audience stood. Fear is evident in all lands and in all walks of
society. Gone are the days of peace and security in the quiet country community.
FEAR LIKE A GREAT BLACK MONSTER stalks the streets of our cities:
Fear of ALCOHOLICS burning for more spirits: DRUG ADDICTS mad
for another fix and determined to get it at any cost, even murder; the
SEX MANIAC, enflamed by magazines and videos, prepared to rape whoever
crosses his path, young or old: the SEX PEVERT AND SADIST who delight
in the most gruesome acts of perversion and cruelty, even on the very young.
In the great tower blocks some live behind steel plated doors with as many
as six locks and bolts to keep out vicious strangers.
NO ESCAPING FROM FEAR
FEAR OF ATOMIC WAR; PLOTTING OF WORLD LEADERS; ABOLITION
OF NATIONAL BOUNDARIES making easy access for leading gangsters and
criminals; SPIRALLING WAGES AND PRICES leading to worldwide monetary
collapse; CONTAMINATION AND POISONS IN FOOD AND DRINK and INCREASING
FEAR of the effects of atomic fallout; the FEAR AND DREAD OF BIG
BROTHER'S ELECTRONIC EYE recording all about you; and the already-felt
working of the sinister person we read about in revelation 13 demanding
that everyone be branded with HIS MARK OR NUMBER, or face the consequences.
FEAR of the rapidly spreading physical and mental diseases; cancer,
AIDS, depression, etc.
Many are FULL OF FEAR but know not what they fear! THERE IS AN
ATMOSPHERE OF FEAR AND FOREBODING everywhere.
AVOIDABLE FEARS
Watching and listening to SATANICALLY INSPIRED occult
programmes of witchcraft, Satanism, violence, blood curdling sadism, etc.,
promoted on TV, video, tape and radio only creates fear and tension.
Many fear another night with inexplicable noises, things moving in the
house and apparitions being so frequently reported these days, often presenting
themselves as supposed heavenly beings.
IN ALL LANDS multitudes live in a sense of AWE AND FEAR of
man-made images, idols, pictures, etc. set up as guardians of the family
or village, while so many more have little icons, medals, emblems and charms
which they wear for health and protection or to ward off spells.
These all become a BINDING POWER on the minds of the users, often
providing A FOOTHOLD FOR SATAN, and creating MORE FEAR in
the lives or homes of those they are supposed to protect.
WORLDWIDE
And who can measure the FEAR of the millions of WEARY,
HUNGRY REFUGEES fleeing before the invading army or the blood thirsty
guerrillas, or the FRIGHTENING ROAR of the RIOTING MULTITUDES,
or of what may develop from THE ENVIRONMENTAL CRISIS, and overshadowing
all this THE POPULATION EXPLOSION?
EMERGENCY EXIT
THE FUTURE is like a great tunnel closing in as we
proceed into it, with FEAR lurking around every corner. THE FUTURE
OUTLOOK is so bleak that in hope of relief millions are resorting to
alcohol, drugs, etc. only to find themselves so ensnared that an ever increasing
number take the emergency exit out of life.
A train driver friend in Canada gave up his job as he could no longer bear
to see people leap in front of the train. It is hard to believe that even
CHILDREN feeling so unwanted and unloved try the same door of escape,
and in Canada in one year 40,000, 9-11 year olds attempted suicide: 400
succeeded!
FEAR HAS TORMENT (1 John 4:18)
- - FEAR OF DEATH and what lies beyond; FEAR of
where you may be for ETERNITY; FEAR OF BEING LEFT BEHIND when Jesus
comes back for His own true followers. (Matthew 24:40,41.) Some try to
believe that death ends it all; in reality it is only the beginning! BE
SURE OF THIS, however brave you try to be now, the day is soon coming
when ALL will quake with fear. "The kings of the earth and the great
men, and the rich men... and evey bondman and every free man, hid themselves
in the caves and rocks of the mountains; and said to the mountains and
rocks fall on us and hide us from the face of Him that sits on the throne
and from the wrath of the Lamb" - JESUS CHRIST.
(REVELATION 6; 15,16)
FEAR IS A SNARE
In PROVERBS 29, verse 25 we read : "THE FEAR OF MAN
BRINGS A SNARE" and holds multitudes subject to so many other
fears. Many, even very religious people, lack assurance or acceptance with
God in the judgement day, but the FEAR OF MAN has so ensnared that
they are afraid to seek help or even earnestly and honestly read the Bible
to see what God says in His word. On the other hand so many know they are
on the broad road AND WOULD LIKE TO BE OFF IT but THE FEAR OF
MAN keeps them on the road to the bottomless pit.
COSTLY
In some lands to confess faith in Jesus Christ as your Saviour
is like signing your own death warrant, while in most places it means mocking
and being ostracised even by family and friends.
But Jesus said, "FEAR NOT THEM THAT KILL THE BODY and after
that they have no more that they can do. But I will warn you who you should
fear. Fear Him, who after He has killed has power to cast into hell, YES,
I TELL YOU, FEAR HIM" - THAT IS GOD. (Luke 12; 4,5)
Of all the memorials in WESTMINISTER ABBEY the monument to Lord
Lawrence sums this up so wonderfully: "HE FEARED MAN SO LITTLE
BECAUSE HE FEARED GOD SO MUCH."
A SIGN
2000 years ago Jesus foretold that FEAR would be a
prominent characteristic of the end of this age. IT IS POPULAR in
our day to treat the Bible as a book of myths and fables but ALL UNPREJUDICED
PEOPLE who read the Bible see that what Jesus said is proving unquestionably
correct: "MENS HEARTS FAILING THEM FOR FEAR AND FOR EXPECTATION
OF THE THINGS THAT ARE COMING ON THE WORLD." Luke 21 : 26.
But God says to His own people "You shall not fear their fear."
(Isaiah 8: 12) BIBLE BELIEVING CHRISTIANS know what is happening,
know what to expect, and know that they have a safe refuge.
FEAR NOT
So often through the Bible we hear God say to THOSE WHO
LOVE HIM AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS, "fear not for I AM WITH
YOU." Even in the VALLEY OF THE SHADOW OF DEATH, David
could say, "I WILL FEAR NO EVIL FOR YOU ARE WITH ME."
(Psalm 23)
And hear the wonderful words of Jesus in Revelation 1: 17,18, "FEAR
NOT, I AM THE FIRST AND THE LAST, I AM THE LIVING ONE, I WAS DEAD, AND
BEHOLD I AM ALIVE FOR EVERMORE, AND I HOLD THE KEYS OF DEATH AND HELL."
So you can with assurance call upon Him and commit yourself to Him, HE
ONLY can open the door of heaven to you. NO ONE can bar entrance
to the one who shakes off FEAR and boldly confess Jesus as their Saviour
and Lord. BUT THROUGH FEAR multitudes, whom Jesus died to save,
will be lost forever.

Hear Jesus saying, "COME TO ME ALL YOU WHO ARE WEARY
AND BURDENED AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST," (Matthew 11:28)- - - rest
from the load of sin and fear.
