Hi, I am Defa. I have 4 legs.

I am the real boss here. I was adopted by Claire and Gerard when Robin was working in Vietnam. To be fair, he asked my owner for me, and my previous owner didn’t feed me, kicked me and my early life was a little miserable. So I came here for a 2 week trial in July 1994. When I first came here, I had no hair, mange and was tiny. Claire and Gerard nursed me back to health, and I’ve been spoilt ever since.

My first trip up the mountain was in Robin’s backpack, but now I am a veteran of over 150 ascents and probably over 100 times up Lion’s Head.

I love people, but have nipped a few drunken epole, so don’t put your face in mine especially if you have had a few drinks.

I love the beach, swimming and my nightly feed of biscuits, but MOST OF ALL I love braais when I go upstairs to the braai area, chew wood, bones and misbehave completely.

I am very accommodating and have had to share my bed sometimes with tired guests.

Yes, I climb the tree, wall and mountains, but not every day.
