THE GREAT PENINSULA TOUR

Cape of Storms - Cape of Good Hope - the fairest Cape of them all ... these few qualifiers give evidence of the diversity you will encounter on this tour.

Following the Atlantic Coast and luxurious suburbs, the picturesque landscapes lead us to the charming fishing village of Hout Bay. The road then winds along the steep cliffs of famous Chapman's Peak Drive and past the unspoiled Noordhoek Beach to Kommetjie. We pass the Crayfish Factory and the thunderous surf of Witsandsbaai to arrive at the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve. We follow some of the secondary roads where we have a good chance to see bonteboks, ostriches, steenboks, zebras and baboons, all well adapted to the very special "fynbos" vegetation of this area.
A short walk at Cape Point brings us up to the lighthouse, one of the oldest and most important ones in South Africa, where we have sweeping views over the Indian and Atlantic Ocean.
After lunch in the Two Oceans Restaurant we leave the Nature Reserve and drive along the False Bay side of the Peninsula to Simon's Town. On a secluded beach we visit a colony of Jackass Penguins, which are protected here after they had all but disappeared in the 1920's. We also have a glance at the military harbour of the town, then continue through picturesque villages to the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden. It is said to be one of the most beautiful and interesting ones in the world. Nestled on the slopes of Table Mountain, this garden boosts more than 90000 species of Southern African indigenous flora. We drive back to town via the University of Cape Town and Groote Schuur Hospital.
