Background
EB arch was established in 1977, developing through
the years into one of the larger architectural practices
in the Western Cape Province of South Africa.
EB Arch consists of 3 partners and a total component
of approximately 20 staff. The practice is centrally
positioned in the Cape Peninsula from where all
local and rural projects are handled. EB Arch is
particularly active in the West Coast area.
The practice is run on a portfolio basis to ensure that
the best expertise of the total staff component is
involved in every project, thus providing a personal and
effective service on every project, however large or
small. |

The
portfolio system ensures an exceptional
standard in the design, documentation, contract
administration
and cost control disciplines of architecture in
comparison
with the usual project architect system. Each partner
controls an architectural discipline for which he has a
special
ability and for which, through training and experience,
he is
best qualified. This is especially relevant in view of
the fact
that, in the architectural profession, no single
architect can
be a specialist in all of these diciplines.
- Partner Piet
Engelbrecht is involved on an
ongoing basis with every project, overseeing all
disciplines, as contact person/project partner
for reasons of continuity and to ensure a
personal
service on each project. He is responsible for
client contact, project and office management
and concept design.
- Partner Andre Bester
is responsible for
detail Design and staff management.
- Partner Brian
Slogrove is responsible for
documentation, contract
administration/inspection.

EB arch
strives to maintain a high standard of service
by constantly enrolling staff in training courses and
work
seminars and by employing the most up-to-date computer
and other technology on the market. The documentation of
projects is completely carried out by use of computer
systems
- promising prompt and accurate results. The practice is
especially well equipped to handle fast track projects
because
of expert computer-aided support in addition to the
portfolio
systems. Approximately 30% of the staff is from
disadvantaged
communities and the practice has subsidised students from
these communities on an ongoing basis over the years for
further studies. Because of this, some of the
above-mentioned
staff members have advanced to positions of senior
technologists
in the firm. We now offer, on an ongoing basis, in-house
training in C.A.D. to draughtspersons from the
disadvantaged
communities and are involved as well in joint ventures with
architectural firms from previously disadvantaged
communities.
We are in the process of instituting a yearly
bursary to a student from the disadvantaged communities
currently doing a course in architectural draughting at
the Cape Technicon. The student will be selected at the
discretion of the head of the department, to further
his or her studies at university level or take a bridging
course
for a degree in architecture. The deserving student will
be
ensured of work for practical training in our offices
during
his/her student career. |
