Tolkien

Writer of the best two books I've ever read, "The Lord of the Rings", and "The Silmarillion". (Of course "The Hobbit" featured quite high up the list). Christopher Tolkien combined most of JRR's unpublished scripts into the Lost Tales series, some passages of which i've included in the tales table. The family trees are from the Silmarillion and so far the pictures are just my favourites.

Foreword to the Silmarillion
Verses from the Lay of Leithian

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them,
In the land of Mordor where the shadows lie.
Seek for the Sword that was broken:
In Imladris it dwells;
There shall be counsels taken
Stronger than Morgul-spells.
There shall be shown a token
That doom is near at hand,
For Isildur's bane shall be waken,
And the Halfling forth shall stand.

All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king.
