About ABBOTT & CRABB
We’ve been around on the South African Pub
and Club circuit for the last 21 years, we are a Comedy/Musical duo (some say
it should be Musical /Comedy) who in all honesty have always had an identity
crisis, are we musicians, comedians, actors or what first??!!
I suppose that we are mostly a comedy duo, most
people seem to remember us for that although in fact what we do is probably 70%
music. We’ve done quite a few recordings, some of which have been released
commercially, they are:
“A Live ABBOTT & CRABB” ….a cassette
release in 1985 I don’t have a copy of this one anywhere, so if anyone
HAS……….mail me…ta
“At Last”
….. An Original album (doesn’t that have some terrible connotations
ORIGINAL!!!!) released on vinyl in 1990.It was recorded at Marshall Harmse’s
studio over a period of 3 weeks. Many of the songs had been lying around for a
LONG time and we felt we had to do something with them

EQUIPMENT
People
often ask what we use as far as gear goes, we use Electrovoice speakers all
round which are supported by the good people at Prosound, CROWN power amps and a Spirit
Folio mixer with Shure radio mikes and Boss Echo/Pitch shifters for vocal
effects. The guitars are a CARVIN acoustic/electric plus a nondescript banjo
for Henry and a Fender Telecaster plus a nondescript violin for Dave. All the
backing is supplied by a Pentium 166Mhz MMX laptop with a Roland SCP55 Pcmcia
card on board. It’s probably time to change the card but until something
considerably better arrives I won’t bother. Both guitars go through Sansamps,
Dave’s was one of the first one’s to arrive in SA. Dave also uses a Korg AXG1
for guitar effects; it’s nice and small and has good usable sounds.
