An eventful year full of challenges, changes and happenings, with quite a bit of Scouter Staff movement.
- Ondine Schrick is on maternity leave from Cubs, John Laatz has taken over and is leading our Cub Pack from strength to strength. He was Assistant Troop Scouter to Stuart Chadderton who now has a regional position in Western Cape Scouting; he continues to assist with Cubs
- Liz Broadley has recently to taken over our Girl Scouts. This will enable our girls to become a truly Pinelands group with the Broadley ties with 1st Pinelands
- Thomas had a few Scouts who turned 18 and moved up into position of assistants
During the year we had a serious break-in, causing a lot of damage, and camping equipment was stolen. We had an attempted break-in with locks and doors damaged. Our handy men have done all the fixing and improved security - thank you to all concerned. Parents who could assist in any way would be most welcome for any future work required.
Patrol boxes are now in position on the walls - thanks to Trout and Sparky. The Second Hand Clothing shop has been taken over by Helen Sands.
Various fundraising events were organised by the committee during the year:
- Newspaper drive
- Pizza & Beetle Drive
- Black Bag sales
- Soup & Pud evening
- Boerewors and cooldrink stall at Newlands Rugby Test
Other fundraising events:
- Dragon Boat racing
- Old Mutual Marathon
- Weekly Cake Raffle, which has been successfully run by Sandra Meyer and who is unable to continue running this. A volunteer is needed for this lucrative event.
Our Hall is used by 1st Steps Play Group on a Thursday for which a fee is levied; Stellenberg Chapel on Sundays in exchange for the use of their tables when we have functions.
Our Boys and Girls have done very well this year in their various competitions. Congratulations to them and the Scouters on their achievements
For those who are not aware, there is remuneration for transport of lifting for events - R10 per 100 km per person lifted. Ensure that you receive this from the Scouter in charge, if you require it, as this fee is costed into the price of the event.
