WELCOME TO THE
AFRICAN CHARCOAL COMPANY Pty Ltd. (AFCHAR)

Reg. No. 80/06436/07

Charcoal is the product of the destructive distillation of wood. Its production can be traced to the earliest times. In the writings of "Theophrastus" it is evident that the Macedonians practiced charcoal burning in pits for the purpose of obtaining tar. In modern days, wood is carbonized mainly for the production of charcoal for use as a reductant in metal manufacture and as a fuel, particularly for recreational Bar-B-Q purposes. In the following pages we will outline: Charcoal as produced by our company is a comparatively labour intensive activity. It is therefore ideally suited for third world environments.
The Hardwood Timber used in our carbonization process is exclusively derived from man made plantations most of which are in a managed rotation. I.E. the trees are re-established for future use after felling.
